LandoRamone30 Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Hey everyone. I had a problem I wanted to talk about but didn't know what topic it would fall into. I am going to put it here to get some feedback from you all. I was employed doing security. I always had problems with paying taxes, car insurance, fees because I didn't want to and felt forced. I felt like democrats and republicans were not really looking out for my interest. I was looking for a third option. I found the libertarian party. Became familiar with the non aggression principle and other libertarian ideals. I also wanted to be an activist and was looking at the free state project and freekeene and other material dealing with civil disobedience. Long story short I became active was arrested for operating a motor vehicle without a tag/ registration. I was charge by the state went to jail; was violated in jail; went to court public defender was useless wasn't convicted but now have a criminal record. This whole process took well over 6 months at which time I had a hard time finding work. Most applications ask if you have criminal record, been arrested, convicted etc and I answer yes. No one is hiring me which I find very frustrating. I know I'm not the first person to have a criminal record. I wanted to know if anyone has had similar stories and now have trouble getting hired or finding work. If so have you found a solution or solutions? I know I would be classed as an unskilled laborer because I do not have any degrees or hard marketable skills. I am able to survive relying heavily on my parents and friend. It is very frustrating not finding work I spend morning filling out applications and afternoons doing house choirs. On the week end I relax but try to keep my mind busy.
WorBlux Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 You weren't convicted but you have a record? WTF? Anyways a good chance do a bit on entrepreneurship. Use personal questions and ask every company you see out working if they are hiriring. Some positions aren't very well advertised if at all. Volunteer somewhere just so you can fill that gap in the resume. Don't give up. You'll probably have to fill out a hundred more but someone will say yes.
LandoRamone30 Posted August 28, 2014 Author Posted August 28, 2014 Maybe I didn't word it right the legal system is not easy for me to comprehend. The rules don't make sense and sometime are not consistent. I was not adjudicated or adjudication was withheld. I was not found guilty nor was I found not guilty I plead no contest because I didn't want to argue the facts. I was charged with a crime, but a verdict to prove my guilt or innocence was never reached.

When you plea guilty or no contest you waive your right to trial and a bunch of other due process guarantees. The judge/court may accept the plea and order sentencing judgment or reject it and set the matter for trial. If this wasn't explained to you, you may have grounds to vacate the plea. If your in a fighting mood, check out Marc Steven's podcast and books.
LandoRamone30 Posted September 3, 2014 Author Posted September 3, 2014 Thank you for the additional information. I really just want to put it behind me and try to see if I can start working a job again. I am really taking your suggestion about business start up seriously and discussed it with some of my family members. They are supportive.

I don't have much job experience due to my age, but is it not possible to just violate the beauty of the scheme and application layouts and just write: "1 offence: Drove without license plate". I mean there are people reading these, which have standards pushed by the corporation in question for application handling, and even if "Criminal Record: Yes" is a no-go with a company, the worker processing it might pass the application on through based on the fact that your violation was pretty damn insignificant? I'm not totally sure this is how it works though. If these are digital applications to large companies using software for easy variable processing, I imagine they have a server system for filtering various combinations and correlationcoefficients, which disables your option to do this though. Just trying to help - Buggy
DaVinci Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I'm not sure I can give you much advice on finding a job. I have always had a problem with too. What I can say is that rather than thinking about this in the "traditional sense" i.e. fill out applications, wait for no one to call back, fill out more, wait more, etc, you should try to find a way to make money in a "jack of all trades" kind of way. Mow grass. Go door to door and ask to mow grass. $20 a yard x 3 yards a day = $60 a day = $300 a week. You can pick up scrap metal. Set up an Etsy account. Sell stuff on Ebay. etc.

Just trying to help - Buggy Thanx for the insight. I'm not sure how companies decide candidates neither. My guess is as good as yours, but I do think they hold my criminal record against me.
