insurr3ct1on Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 How do you make sense of it all? I'm an atheist myself, but what are you to think of people who claim they can talk to dead people? Also, what do you say about ghost/spirit sightings and haunted lands and houses? Is there some purgatory after-life some, but not all of us go to? I know consciousness is an effect of matter as far as we can tell, but how does one take into consideration these strange occurrences? Can a person ACTUALLY become possessed by an evil residual energy, not a demon from hell?
dsayers Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Do you mean to ask what we are to think of people that claim that dead people talk to them? Talking to dead people is easy enough A claim of "ghost sighting" is to simultaneously claim that there is such a thing as a ghost and that it can impress upon our sense of sight. Meaning it could be measured, documented, and proven. Without this, the claim could indicate a lack of understanding that such a claim would require it. Most of these things can be boiled down to a lack of acceptance of one's capacity for error. If they're not asking themselves "how do I know this to be true?" and satisfying it with logic, reason, and evidence, then we can discard their conclusion.
