Travis Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Here is a comic that I finished today. I'm presenting it here first. Please share the image if you think it has value. Any critiques? 3
dsayers Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 My critique is that it's a utilitarian argument, making it inferior to a moral argument. Morality already provides for self-interest by being internally consistent. I've made the case before that morality is the default simply because its integral to our self-preservation. The guy that assaults somebody has a greater risk of undesired things happening to him compared to the same guy that doesn't assault somebody for example. Still, it's great that the anti-assaulting children message is getting out. I for one can identify. My father is perpetually dumbfounded as to why I don't spend any more time with him than he forces me to for the sake of benefiting from the effects of my labor.
Josh F Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Well spankers are big on "teaching consequences" so maybe it will appeal 1 1
Travis Posted October 7, 2014 Author Posted October 7, 2014 @dsayers: Thanks for replying! I should edit the post to make it clear that I am the cartoonist and this forum is the first place the comic has been seen. I just finished it this morning. I agree that it is an inferior argument but I think it may have some positive effect, if people see the comic. Sorry to hear that your dad acts so dumbfounded. @Josh F: Thanks! That's what I was thinking too.

Morality > utility because morality == utility.
