Iuliu Pop Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 In this video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKAD28POlyU&list=UUzOnXvfwc32YEiwTe_8Nf-g&index=34 Rocking MrE, argues that the use of the word 'Capitalism' is a misnomer because Capitalism isn't an ideology, but a naturally occurring voluntary activity and that therms such as the one used by Adam Smith "the Invisible Hand" are much more appropriate words for trading activities because people aren't guided into economic activities by an ideology, but rather by their natural incentives (the Invisible Hand) such as wanting to buy products at the lowest price possible. I would very much appreciate hearing your views on this video.
fractional slacker Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 I think Mr. E makes a good point. There is no such things as capitalism, but there is a thing known as free trade which is called capitalism primarily when it has a negative effect/exploitation. When people are better off from free trade, the Marxist blame capitalism for not conforming to egalitarian notions. The Marxist always thinks in terms of zero sum game, which is a fallacy easily shown not to be natural or inevitable. Since it was a word coined by an enemy of freedom, Karl Marx, it is probably not a term one wants to use when debating a Marxist.
dsayers Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 I wish more people were taught to critically think. Once I was exposed to the idea of self-ownership, SO many things became both clear and simple to me. Including the understanding that what is referred to as capitalism really is just an observation of that which is naturally occurring as stated above. People own their own bodies, time, and effort. These are their capital, which is used to acquire more resources to make survival more efficient and pleasurable. Without the initiation of the use of force, nothing about this process is sinister. Meanwhile, where the initiation of the use of force IS present, this aggression is what is immoral/problematic, not the fact that humans own themselves.
