The scar strengthens the area from further abuse, but it many cases, it will never return to what came before.... :'( <3

I found this line, a part of the conclusion, interesting also: "This would fit with the finding that the teens who said their parents were more supportive tended to show the more striking inhibitory effect during criticism." Could it be an error in their self-reporting, or some kind of false praise of their parents (the worse the parents - the more nagging/criticism - the more capability for emergency shutdown - the more fear, the more contrived adulation and 'respect')... I wonder.
