Sal9000 Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 I ran across this interesting article some time ago which made me think http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/modern-art-was-cia-weapon-1578808.htmlNo surprise if you ask me.
powder Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 interesting. I have also read about how rock and roll, recreational drugs, and the hippie movement were started by these covert ops to derail the youth movement. I am not sure I see how influencing and supporting the arts can be a valuable tool in the cold war for the oligarchs though... the article goes into detail about how they wanted to foster this left wing liberal perspective in the US, but why would they care about that sort of thing?
Wuzzums Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 I remember being a child in a museum looking at paintings then my mother asked me if I wanted to also see the modern art exhibit. I was very excited because I expected to see paintings of comic book heroes, robots, Mickey Mouse, etc. Boy was I ever confused and disappointed...
DaVinci Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Having come from the art world I agree with some of what he is saying, but a lot of what he says is just snobbery. Somone who teaches graduate students should have a better understanding of art history and this video is very telling that he doesn't.
