GiveMeCredit Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Hi Everyone I would like to present an idea and I would greatly appreciate your feedback and support. To start with, I believe that it is likely that Greece will need a new currency at some point in the near future, and I think this could be a good opportunity for crypto-currencies to gain traction. However, crypto-currencies in their current form are not suitable for this purpose. A new kind of crypto-currency is required which will allow the people of Greece (or anywhere for that matter) to create their own wealth and rebuild their economy. Essentially, my plan is to develop an application which will act as a consensus mechanism allowing people to donate money into existence, thus resulting in a currency which is a digital representation of value. Value is subjective and should be assigned by consensus, and not explicitly defined. The toolbar will be called GiveMeCredit. The currency units themselves will be called Credits, with the currency symbol GMC. Universal acceptance and trust are paramount in establishing a new currency. In this case, trust has to be earned and not assumed - similar to users on ebay, amazon, elance etc. Users will be required to setup a public profile, kind of like a resume, which includes a photo, personal introduction, list of credentials, references etc. After logging in you would need to generate a pin number, account number, payment address and a GiveMeCredit widget, which you will need to copy and paste onto your project page in order to lobby the crowd for credits. i.e. This idea could also improve the internet as a whole. Search engines rely on algorithms in order to find good quality content. Although human moderation is far more effective, it requires an incentive for people to take part. GiveMeCredit provides the incentive for people to assign value to content as well as providing an opportunity for people to monetise on content. If Greece were to adopt this currency, there could be no such thing as unemployment as there will always be something to do and a way to fund it. I would like the system to be as simple and self-regulatory as possible. I would also like to focus on platform independence, modularity and transparency. So that’s the basic idea. What do you think? Yay? Nay? My plan is to crowd-fund the project and get some developers working on it asap. Cheers!
utopian Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 You may want to check out the concept of colonial scrip; Ben Franklin attributes the beginning of the revolutionary war to Britan's outlawing of colonial scrip. Its basically an individual's right to create IOU's in their name, backed by whatever service or commodity the individual can provide. It worked in the colonies, and it can work for Greece. Cyber currencies can work for it, but anything cyber is subject to hacking. Also, any new currency is going to have to survive outlaw by the bankers and whatever government puppets they own.
Culain Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 From what I understand about currencies, you can NOT create wealth. If I go and create a crypto- currency called Culain Coins and give myself 100 million of them, I am not wealthier. What i can do with currencies though is transfer and invest the wealth I already have. Money can not be donated into existed because money is stored value. Value is a representation of labour. In order for a currency to gain value it requires investment in the form of labour. I really have no idea what you mean by create or donate money into existence. It definitely sounds like another fiat scam and I'm pretty sure that the Greece population are going to be wary of lingo like that after they go through another collapse.
