Alan C. Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 Brown orders California's first mandatory water restrictions: 'It's a different world' Brown ordered the California Water Resources Control Board to implement mandatory restrictions to reduce water usage by 25%. . . . --Require golf courses, cemeteries and other large landscaped spaces to reduce water consumption. --Replace 50 million square feet of lawn statewide with drought-tolerant landscaping as part of a partnership with local governments. --Create a statewide rebate program to replace old appliances with more water- and energy-efficient ones. --Require new homes to have water-efficient drip irrigation if developers want to use potable water for landscaping. --Ban the watering of ornamental grass on public street medians. --Call on water agencies to implement new pricing models that discourage excessive water use. --Require agricultural to report more water usage information to the state so that regulators can better find waste and improper activities. --Create a mechanism to enforce requirements that water districts report usage numbers to the state. It's funny how everything the government manages ends up resulting in shortages.
WasatchMan Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 It's funny how everything the government manages ends up resulting in shortages. Especially when they live right next to a body of water (the Pacific Ocean) that covers 165 million square kilometers (about 1/3 the size of the earth), with approximately 660 million cubic kilometers of water. 4

aeonicentity Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I love how none of those solutions address the problem: They have subsidized water use for too long to farmers, and other special interests.
J. D. Stembal Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 In honor of our fellow oppressed Californians, I will resume beating off in the shower regularly, like a teenager. Freedom is happiness! Tyranny is death to the male libido! I thought this was a humorous typographical error: We have a state water board that overseas the relationships with the districts. 1
