Mister Mister Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Anyone have experience with trying to connect with parents who admit guilt over shortcomings as parents?
A Madman Person Guy Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Nope. Quite the opposite. Which I find inexplicably amusing. Given the quirks of human psychology, I am for the most part astonished that there even exist people who haven't inured themselves to their own flaws in this regard, and are good enough to apologize for their failures, who have become parents in the first place. And now I've got to go and dig out the ol' Johnny Cash...
Mister Mister Posted April 12, 2015 Author Posted April 12, 2015 Well the flaws in this case are not physical violence but more yelling, emotional manipulation and so on.
Dumitru Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Anyone have experience with trying to connect with parents who admit guilt over shortcomings as parents? For me the "connection" left me feeling manipulated and angry, so for now I've stopped attempting it anymore. There was also no follow-through after the admission of guilt.
J. D. Stembal Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Anyone have experience with trying to connect with parents who admit guilt over shortcomings as parents? The result for me was more like, "We couldn't tell you were so sad. Don't you remember all the good times?" No, but I remember being hit and being prescribed anti-depressants.
