I love the art of comedy, but I feel most people aren't interested in going to comedy clubs. An inkling tells me this is because most clubs need to change; may it be food, prices, structure, whatever. I'd appreciate you to take time out of your day to help me understand this issue more deeply. If you have any suggestions feel free to post them!

Would be nice to see a "Only been one time" option.

If you don't go, why not?

I put too expensive. Actually I don't mind the paying for food, drinks and entertainment. The only comedy club I know of is downtown and the parking is a nightmare. So it's the parking that is the main issue for me.

Funny you say that, a lack of comedy clubs is a huge deterrent as well. Depending on where you live there's usually one or two clubs to pick from. In Cincinnati we had one club, and the one in Bloomington Indiana was getting all the big comedians. I would have to drive 2 hours to and back to see shows with my favorite performers.

Question 2 could use a "rarely" option, or replace once a year with rarely. I've been more than once, but only go maybe once a year if that.

And question 3 could use a "lack of access" like you're saying. The closest one for me is about an hour away, so I'll only go if I know it'll be worth it. If the club was only a few minutes away I'd go check out random acts, but not gonna risk an hour drive for little payoff.

You might want to note, that you probably need a further answer in number 2. I used to go to comedy clubs a lot in my 20's and 30's, but haven't been to one in years. So the 2nd question's answers were irrelevant for me, but I was forced to answer it. I put down once this year, because I saw a Shakespeare comedy. :D

Do you think the scourge of political correctness plays a significant role in lack of comedy clubs?

It's why I don't do stand up anymore. I can see others saying the same, so with fewer comedians clubs won't last as long. Most comedians these days are very "progressive".

I responded 'too far' for the reason I don't go to comedy clubs, but the political correctness of the audience is a big factor in the overall quality of modern comedy.  I recently heard Joe Rogan and Kurt Metzger talk on their respective podcasts about how today's hypersensitive audiences and social media scandals are ruining comedy.  They cite other comedians that are outspoken on the issue, such as Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock.  Things like the Daniel Tosh rape joke outrage, or the Ari Shaffir "bullying" have a strong chilling effect.  I suspect (and hope) we can look forward to a backlash of radically offensive, no-holds-barred, hilarious comedy, with nothing too sacred to make fun of.  If that happens, I'll be sure to frequent my local comedy club more often.
