tasmlab Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 It's a pretty unconventional movie. It deals with a guy who has created Artificial Intelligence and has lots of discussion on whether AI deserves the same treatment as life, when determinism becomes free will, and other fun topics like that. I won't give out much more unless somebody wants to discuss. Recommended! 1
fractional slacker Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 I thought it was good movie, and leagues above the competition: Her. Thought Her was awful, but many friends thought it was great.Did you find the protagonist a little over the top or did you find his character suitable?
tasmlab Posted July 13, 2015 Author Posted July 13, 2015 Yea, he was over the top, but then he had a God complex. And to some degree a murderer. I thought he made every scene particularly tense. SPOILER: I personally really liked "Her", but regardless it's interesting to contrast how the different movies thought AI would liberate itself in the end, with one professing love and then leaving to be with AI, the other murdering its maker and joining humanity.
WasatchMan Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 I also thought it was a good movie. I find AI really interesting to ponder. The idea really drives all the way down to the core of what makes us human, what is life, what is consciousness, what does it take for something to have morality apply to them.
percentient Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Thought Her was awful Can you identify what was wrong with it?
fractional slacker Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Can you identify what was wrong with it? I found the concept of "falling in love" with a computer program voice more science fiction than I could handle. The scene where they have a picnic double date with a phone standing in as a participant was laughable.
