How to spot a serial killer: Criminologists reveal five key traits the most notorious murderers have in common

The traits listed:

  1. Power Junkie
  2. Manipulator
  3. Egotistical Bragger
  4. Superficial Charmer
  5. Average Joe
COULD BRAIN SCANS REVEAL A SERIAL KILLER?

Other researchers theorise that damage to the frontal lobe, the hypothalamus and the limbic system can cause extreme aggression, loss of control, and poor judgment.

Henry Lee Lucas, a serial killer convicted of 11 murders, was found to have extreme brain damage in these regions, for example.

The brain study at the University of Wisconsin, Madison also noticed a drop in connectivity between the amygdala and the ventromedial prefrontal cortex (vmPFC).

These regions process negative stimuli into negative emotions and responses.

When connectivity is low, people have lower levels of empathy and aren’t easily ashamed by their actions.

If the neuroscanner detection of serial killers is perfected, would you recommend society command all individuals to receive such scans?  If you don't want a government doing it it could be commanded by private property owners as prerequisite to entering private property.

I wouldn't command all individuals to submit to a scan. There are telltale signs which could suggest a potential problem even without a scan (eg. certain patterns of behavior such as compulsive lying). Firms might want to scan their employees as a condition of employment, in much the same way that they might screen for drug use or past criminal records.
