LandoRamone30 Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 I remember watching a video a while back that had this neat diagram. The youtube video's topic was on law, the rule of law, ideas of republic and democracy and the sort. Anyway I can't find the video, but was thinking and wanted to get forum reads opinions on this topic. I think it has some relevance to what Stefan was talking about in his Gene Wars podcast. I listed them as way 1 and way 2. The third path is not mentioned. Way 1 is more leaning towards the right on the political spectrum. With the idea that the law should be the foundation and apply equally across the board to everyone. Way 2 is more leaning to the left. With the idea that law should be use to elevate people to a equal strength to others. I'll explain strength. Strength will be some measure of economical status. Example. I came into the world to parent with alot of money thus is of a higher status than you who came to be with parent of modest mean. Way 2 would say the laws need to be changed to increase you who are modest so you can be at my level of status. Tell me what you think thanks. P.S. I attach the pictures for a visual representation. I took them out of my note book so they are kinda crude.
Magnetic Synthesizer Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 You realise that what is reffered to as law is coercion. Also I would like to add that all this bs in the environement (the system) seems to promote the ill-intentioned and harm the well-intentioned. What exactly do you want to see? Nice graphic representations. On a fun note, in ethics class, we were presented the kolberg's theory on stages of moral developpement. and the teahcer was like '' I believe no one of your age can possibly operate from the post-conventional levels''. BS# 21312310, added to database. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_Kohlberg's_stages_of_moral_development notice ''deference to autority'' is considered a moral stage. Law abidence is an extension of level 1, either by autority or by fantazy ( I briefly went through the ''hard on crime'' rational in 4th grade, or the consideration of the unknown individuals's competence involved in legislation) Only level 2,5 and 6 seem legit. 2 is good for business despite differences in virtue. 3 can be legit only if without 1.
AncapFTW Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 It says in the wikipedia article that it is the stages you go through in your life and how you justify those decisions, not an evaluation of how moral the decision is.
LandoRamone30 Posted August 24, 2015 Author Posted August 24, 2015 I mentioned it only because we live in a statist paradigm. I perfer the rules to be equal to everyone and we do not make exceptions to the rules. If we are gonna have a rule it has to apply to everyone. We can not have a rule that some people have to follow while other people get a "get out of following the rule" card. Or worst make advantagous rules for some people in a conceptual catorgory: like the poor, the elderly, the disabled, the government, the etc etc etc. Having rules that benefit some at the expense of others seems to be the norm. So I posted it as way 1 and way 2.
