Alan C. Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 D.C. introduces paid leave: Why 2016 could (finally) be family leave's election The bill, which is considered likely to pass, would make all full- and part-time workers eligible for 16 weeks paid leave for illness, to care for a family member, or after the birth or adoption of a child. I'm sure that it won't have any effect on employment.
Koroviev Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 No one actually wanted to run a small business or anything did they? Oh! I know lets start a business where we can just steal money from our customers whenever we don't make enough money to cover us going on vacation for 16 weeks out of the year
AccuTron Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 I see that Massachusetts made a law for 11 or more employees, for 40 hours of sick leave, which is supposed to show public approval. One week vs four weeks is a big difference. And of course, nobody will want to hire employee #11. And some other examples were for big companies who could absorb it, at a small percentage of usage anyway.
Alan C. Posted October 6, 2015 Author Posted October 6, 2015 My employer provides 5 days of paid sick leave per calendar year, even though it's not mandatory. I usually miss two days per year due to a cold. I think the most I ever missed was 3 days. We do have, and have had in the past, employees who use all 5 sick days every year. They called in sick for headaches, hangovers, or "not feeling well" which means that they stayed up late the night before.
