Given that we're all part of the philisophical master race here, in theory we should be able to outperform if we tried our hand in the business world. Lets put that to the test. There are a large group of people in these forums with qualifications and untapped potential that I am curious to see.

Despite the environment of regulation, affirmative action and bloated bureaucratic corporations, there are always oportunities in the marketplace. It is just a matter of spotting them, with the right people and the right plan.

Post your interests, education, qualifications below. Also we can discuss some low capital entrepreneurial ideas and business plans.

I will start:

-I have a bachelor's degree in Finance and a certificate in Molecular Biology

-I know Mandarin at an intermediate-advanced level

-Have worked in expense management in heavy industry companies in China

-Also worked in general business roles in the U.S.

-Interested in entrepreneurship, genetics and philosoply of course

One possible area for a business opportunity might be genetic consulting. For example, I got my DNA tested and looked up vitamin deficiencies that I am suceptable to. This gene counseling can possibly be sold to customers. Just a thought

Please chime in!

-Jake

You misspelled "successful" in your title. What does philosophical master race mean?

I stand corrected captain! and 'philosophical master race' was just a quip on my part

I should be careful not to mess with teabaggers, especially the professional type such as yourself

Hi Bruce!

Looks like your interests fit very well!

So the general business idea is for people who get their sequencing data from sites like 23andme.com then run it through promethease.com

I think some people can't be bothered to sift throught and interpret all the information. This is were we add value.

We would just need a very simple site, and some people who can take the information and write up a concise, actionable report for the customer. Though it would be tough to get people interested in this kind of thing. Would need a sales effort to get people interested.

I'm not even sure if its a good enough idea, which is why I want to brainstorm a bit

Hi Jake,

What a wonderful idea!

I just made a skype group -- Innovator's corner (though the name can be changed) -- if that may be of interest !

https://join.skype.com/zfezvf39zePO

-I ran my first business when I was 13

-Wordpress developer

-Learning to code

-Currently working on a project, Truth Pact, to get young philosophers and creative thinkers together

-An idea machine (at least I like to think so : )

Interested in and learning all things related to tech, genomics, biohacking and entrepreneurship. I am a fan of people like Peter Thiel, Chamath Palihatiya, Marc Andreesen, Reid Hoffman, Elon Musk, and the many others in Silicon Valley (or not) who are innovating.

I am particularly passionate and interested in bitcoin, the technology behind it and the incredible impact it will have on the internet, communication, and on people in poor, heavily socialized countries to the United States. I am confident it is a game changer.

I am currently getting a few farmers at the local market to understand, accept and adopt bitcoin securely. This is something I am currently doing for free, simply to grow the bitcoin ecosystem and to get all of the (libertarian) farmers on board.

I think a group it is a wonderful idea to get creative philosophers together and share these things. It might even be fun to work remotely with each other on a project or topic of interest.

I look forward to hearing from everyone else.

I think a lot of people in the community are afflicted by their intelligence, it's very easy to be in love with ideas (as many of us are)

so much so that we just like thinking and thinking and learning and learning but then, having relied so long on our strength, find it hard to actually do big things. Analysis by paralysis.

A lot of people in this community are so perfectionist and have such high standards in their head they are scared to create anything in case it doesn't live up to their potential. A lot of healing work to be done in these areas to really unlock peoples talents and free them up to create with their genius.

I agree. I have been told before that I often 'overthink' things, its good to keep in mind moving forward.

I am successful. I have a great wife and two awesome kids.

I work enough to provide a stable life for myself and my family.

Beyond that, I have little interest in wasting my life providing the tremendous amount of value I have to offer to a world which does not acknowledge property rights. The more value I produce, the more the world claims a right to seize my property.

Also, wouldn't it be immoral to provide resources to a system which initiates the use of force?

In a free market my skills could change the world, but in our current system I will build my skills and continue my research for my own enjoyment.

I would like to thank Ayn Rand and her John Galt for this perspective.

I have never been happier in my life.

I always struggle to explain to people just what my qualifications are, as I don't have that much paper behind my name. I find things like my suit, cage fighting videos, and bricks of silver speak the loudest. I have some interesting academic achievements, as well as some interesting events completed in my life. There are more to come that I am working on.

So anyway, interests and such;

Computer networking/ A+ certified since 2012

Programming experience in Basic, pascal, Linux VI

Detailed study of the history of money, as seen in my signature.

Made tens of thousands on investing, half luck, and then half deliberate.

Won "best speech" award from my professor in a public speaking class, with a letter of recommendation.

Spoke in front of and organized demonstrations with and for Occupy Wall Street.

Former amateur cage fighter with some nice wins under my belt, some on video.

Currently working with NASA engineers on a relatively new fuel source with the potential to replace oil.

I am kind of all over the place, a jack of all trades. I seem to be hitting a philosophical wall in my life, unfortunately. My money has allowed me to waste away while playing video games all day and become a reclusive hermit ranting that the end is near. Part of me is mad at myself knowing that I could get these NASA engineers off the ground and change the world. Another part of myself is mad at myself for bothering with any of this in the first place and not going out and getting laid/getting a decent girlfriend-wife in my life. I can't seem to choose one, or the other, or both, and just seem to be stagnating, waiting for my investments to perform. I think I need to figure out the philosophy of my life before I really decide.

That is a very interesting idea. I'm not much for entrepreneurial collaboration but I'll contribute anyway just for fun.

- Bachelors in Applied and computational math sciences with a minor in mathematics

- Software developer

- Do occaisional music gigs, mostly session recordings(vocals)

- Addicted to volunteering my time to open source software developement projects, usually related to math or algorithm libraries, gaming engines, and physics simulation stuff

- Also, I make a really tasty hungarian mushroom soup

That is a very interesting idea.  You're right about needing a sales effort for this but I do think that many people would be interested.  I've seen how excited people get with their results from 23andme and I've also witnessed (through people paying for health coaching) how willing people are to spend money if it will give them value and insight into their health. The data on how people are spending to improve their health also proves this.

I'm waiting to see if this will be my stance next year too.

I'm a freelance contractor ('enterprise' software development) and next year dividend tax is up a whole 7% in one hit. They're also looking very likely to stop travel & subsistence (I currently spend about £12-15 k per year in train fares & the occasional hotel stay) from being allowable business expenses.

If this happens then I might take the hint that they want me to be a less productive permanent employee (where I get paid whether I perform or not). Or perhaps I'll just work 6 months per year and claim jobseeker allowance the other 6.

Currently things are tolerable, and I'm driving a new Jaguar F-Type V6s coupe. If they don't want me to drive the jag, then I'm not sure what the incentive is for me to commute a 5 hour round trip every day (I enjoy working - but not so that single mums can be sponsored to continually breed more and more net consumers, at my expense).

I am interested.

I am thinking to get my own DNA sequenced, before exploring the business idea further. Would you recommend 23andme.com, or should I search for alternate websites?

My primary interest is in extending my life, because I have no problem enjoying my life.

Outliving other people born in 1962, will be my success.

I have a diploma in Datametrics, with distinction, from years ago when I was coding computer programs.

I quit coding computer programs (after 20 years of that) and I now sell packaging equipment imported from China, into South Africa, where I live (in Johannesburg).

Another nutrigenomics presentation by Dr. Patrick:

Rhonda Patrick's website: http://www.foundmyfitness.com/news

CYP2R1, FOXO3 and APOE4 are the two most important Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms to focus on from a health standpoint, as they are the most profound from a health care cost perspective.

I asked a NICU nurse what she thought of genetic screening before conception, and she said that it was not her place to consult with couples concerned about congential defects. She was there to clean up the aftermath.

http://jscreen.org/reasons-for-genetic-testing/

I don't have any in depth formal education is science or business, but I'm interested in consulting with individuals on the practical application of metrics, like 23andme, as a tool for changing lifestyle. Chopping off your breasts is completely unnecessary, and Angelina Jolie has a screw loose.

People can buy the test, swab their mouth, and see the results, but they may have absolutely no idea how to increase their chances of staying healthy in the future. The reason for this is we are constantly hammered with false and misleading government propaganda from the media and public school system.

I'm curious to know why nutrigenomics and epigenetics interests you. My interest stems from my family of origin, whose wealth and intelligence did not save them from early mortality due to metabolic disease, the plague of the modern era.

Hi,

This is one of the more useful threads I've seen here when comparing to the nebulous discussions on flat earth theory and whatnot.

  • Served 5 years in the United States Marine Corps as a Ground Systems Radio Technician with two overseas tours (one combat, one to Okinawa).
  • Married to a Kinesiology graduate who intends to peacefully parent as many children as we can support.
  • Currently finishing a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science with electives focusing on physiological and biochemical science.
  • Self-teaching violin using the Suzuki method.
  • Accepted to Western University, Pomona - Osteopathic Medicine program. Scheduled to call in on Saturday, November 21 to get input on my plans to specialize in pediatric neuropathology that may be related to parenting-induced epigenetics. It will be 11-12 years before this training an research is finished.

I currently am friends with a hypnotherapist and several biochemists who are interested in masterminding in the future to peacefully subvert the government using anarcho-capitalist principles in the realm of technology and child rearing. We're in the Los Angeles area.

I know it was a quip but I have to say philosophical master race just doesn't come out well. In my experience those that consider themselves above the rest tend to like to put people into classes which is elitism at its finest. Countries that have throughout history pushed elitism tend to end up the most corrupt and tyrannical. That being said if we are quote in quote above the rest then why would one who is above average intelligence want to go after certificates which are purely elitist in nature and sets up a system that inherently is anti-innovation. Instead of getting a job because someone was the best at it they get it because they got in on a monopoly that forces competition out.

Sorry I know this seems like i'm attacking you but I am not. I am all for entrepreneurship and I like that focus put on it. That being said I find it hard that any would disagree we are in an immoral system so by going out of our way to work within it we are promoting such a system, is that not unintelligent? If the quote in quote "intelligent" are better at long term actions, than by working for the current system one is deliberately focused on short term gain at the detriment of not only oneself but those around and those to come.

By certs you mean qualifications?  Lol. Like I'm gonna trust an electrician to rewire my house without killing me just because he promises he know what he's doing!   That being said, in my industry (software) certs are a pure scam.
