Matthew Ed Moran Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Hi, I want to learn about the history of philosophy, but I don't know who is most credible. I am most interested in Western philosophy, but would appreciate any particularly insightful histories of other traditions of philosophy. I already have "Intellectuals" by Paul Johnson on my reading list. Any books, podcasts, articles, or Youtube videos would be appreciated.
Donnadogsoth Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 A History of Philosophy by Frederick Copleston, is an accessible, 11-volume work, and should be as broad, long, and deep as you desire.
shirgall Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Another one is The Story of Philosophy, by Will Durant. http://www.amazon.com/Story-Philosophy-Will-Durant-ebook/dp/B00873GLOQ/
EuanM Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 I believe Leonard Peikoff's 'History of Philosophy' lecture series would interest you. http://campus.aynrand.org/classroom/22/ I also suggest the book 'The Cave and the Light: Plato Versus Aristotle, and the Struggle for the Soul of Western Civilization' by Arthur Herman - although I haven't read it myself yet, I hear it's very good (it's on my pile) http://www.amazon.com/Cave-Light-Aristotle-Struggle-Civilization/dp/0553385666/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1448034057&sr=8-1&keywords=arthur+herman 1 1

Carl Green Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 I enjoyed hearing about Philosophy from this wonderful Southern (US) accent. YouTube Video Playlists. The first two are videos in which he discusses particular philosophers through time. I believe most or all are Western.
