The Corruption of Christmas - A Poem

Imagine a Christmas without the corruption
A true family day, minus stressful eruption

Eruptions in families, so often the case
Teenage kids have been taught, it’s all about saving face

Saving face with their peers, who may have more, or have less
While many parents buckle, under financial stress

Stress that is caused, by consumerism gone mad
Most people front it, but many are sad

Sad that they feel, no control or restraint
Too scared to speak up, in case their name it does taint

Tainted by not being one of the flock
If you don’t fall in line, then other people will mock

Mock you, if you don’t go along with the lie
“IT'S ALL FOR THE KIDS"”
The masses do cry

So let’s keep training our kids, for a good Christmas time
Just a day for gifts, food, beer and wine

But tell them nothing, about all the stress and the debt
Or how their parent’s minds, they so often do fret

So let’s pretend, train them well
For when their parents themselves
When the lie becomes more, than just Santa and Elves

The lie in the past, was religion, but that’s been replaced
By consumer altars so big, Jesus would be disgraced

We now all pray at the altar, of corruption and greed
Christmas now means so little
It should make our hearts bleed
