PrinceptsRob Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 The twitter hashtag seems to be a statement against the perceived excesses of the rich, but I see more sinister aspects of communism in many of the commentators.
shirgall Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 The concept of individual resistance to what champions individual choices has enough cognitive dissonance in its own construction alone that engaging the statements that have that hashtag is probably a letdown. The only way to resist capitalism is to wield state power. That's not resistance, that's jackboots. 1
Will Torbald Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 I don't think it needs to be said, but resisting capitalism using the products fo capitalism is insane. Which is what you need to be in order to resist capitalism in the first place... ohhh, I see.
dsayers Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 A person's body, time, and effort is their capital. To use it to try and "resist capitalism" is a performative contradiction.
Donnadogsoth Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 A person's body, time, and effort is their capital. To use it to try and "resist capitalism" is a performative contradiction. Are most communists capable of grasping what a performative contradiction is? Just because they're communists doesn't mean they've sunk their teeth into Marx at any depth.
tux Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 It's funny that this movement appears to be fueled not by tired worn workers who have been fooled into believing in LTV, but by young privileged students, a majority of them thinking anything below a MacBook Pro is below their dignity. Sure, intellectual revolutions have been lead by the educated classes, not workers, but here you actually get a glimpse of what sorts of people who see themselves as victims of capitalism. It becomes hard for anyone to sympathize with them. This is a fad that will be forgotten in a few weeks.

The problem, as always, is that time spent on pointless boondoggles is time that could have been spent doing something productive (pun intended).
shirgall Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 An example of the kind of craziness out there is the comments on this post: http://microsoft-news.com/microsoft-ceo-satya-nadella-is-selling-his-house-at/ Yes, my "boss" (there's a few people between me and him in the chain of command) is selling his house that he's been living in for 20 years for about double what he bought it for. To me, that's not noteworthy. I tried to sell my house for double what I paid for it only 10 years in. What seems to bother people is that it's a big house and that real estate is expensive in Seattle and that the CEO of Microsoft has money.
Alan C. Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 A bunch of frustrated losers who will never amount to anything because they spend all of their time trying to collect what they believe others owe them.
thebeardslastcall Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Fight capitalism by quitting your job (where you were unduly profiting for providing a service!) and then stealing your way to sufficiency from productive people. Sounds legit.... if you're violently suicidal and a sore loser. Perhaps a picture... http://i.imgur.com/80O3PgS.jpg If you're not profiting from anything you're dead. The mass media and forced indoctrination systems seem to have successfully deranged a lot of people on the meanings of a great many words. They rarely seem to have any idea what they're talking about and are just ignorantly lashing out at supposed injustices as they were taught to do. I'd be very careful if you choose to engage with these people because they're not likely to understand a word you say and are likely to just be inflamed by your attempts to pull them out of the rabbit hole as if you were digging them in further. 1
