Constructive feedback needed :)

Hi everyone,

After listening to the recent show #3219 "Why Libertarians Fail The Sh!t Test" in which Stef gave a great speech about commitment and certainty, it has sprung me into action.

I have been "half-assing" it, being somewhat of a poser. I haven't been fully committing to spreading reason, evidence, consistency, philosophy.

So I made the below video the next day. Its my confession of guilt and a promise to amend my half-assing ways. My promise to the world to commit fully.

It is currently an unlisted video, I have not published it yet. While I don't need anyone's permission to publish it, I would very much love any constructive feedback you all may have before I do, as I truly believe Stef, Mike, Stoyan and the wider FDR community are doing the best work in the realm of philosophy and bringing reason and evidence to the world. You guys are my benchmark.

If you have the time to spare, I would love to hear anyone's thoughts. The video will go live on Monday evening (Australian time).

Thanks very much :)

Hey, Joe!

I find it super fascinating that you work in the gold industry! If precious metals are one of your passions, it is one that we share my friend. :)

I enjoyed watching the video, and one thing I'd like to commend you on right off of the bat is your ability to articulate yourself consistently throughout the video without major cuts.

That's one thing I struggle with in my presentations online; my mind simply goes blank when staring at the camera. With practice, its getting better, but I respect the feat when I see it!

One minor suggestion would be to increase the speed of your speech to whatever extent is comfortable or possible for you. I listened to the video on 1.5x speed and it flowed naturally as though you were in conversation with a friend. This is largely due to the numerous pauses in the video, which is something you certainly have the capacity to improve on!

As for the content of the video, I really like it! The door-knocking analogy (with the fire of impending doom coming) was powerful, and you are clearly in possession of sufficient passion and care for the world and those around you to do the work you intend to to expose the truth. I subscribed! I think since you're into precious metals, you might enjoy my work on YouTube as well: http://www.youtube.com/user/nickrundlettspeaks

I hope you find more valuable feedback from other board members!

I really liked your video, and the situation you described really hit home for me and i think a lot of other people here.

My reason for not knocking really loudly on the door to follow your analogy is that i have to much doubt wether there really is a fire coming and how it will look if any will come.

Don't get me wrong i do see that there are a lot of things in motion in the world that seem to be on a road towards disaster but i do not know when it will happen or how it will look like.

Wether it will be fast or that it will be so terribly slow that people are not really going to react much to it.

Maybe only certain parts of the world will be struck most, maybe everything will be fine for the next 40 years and my time will be much better spend becoming a peacefull parent.

Long story short, there are just to many uncertainties still for me.

Secondly, should you be knocking on the peoples doors at all? Let's say to make your analogy more accurate that all these people living in the houses that surround you all smoke ciggarettes and they all go in to the woods nearby to smoke them. You yourself do not smoke and have been telling people that they should put out their cigarettes when they throw them away in the woods. But people do not seem to listen, and they keep on throwing lit cigarettes in the woods and now the village is about to burn down for the 20th-something time in history.

Why not just warn only the non smokers and leave with them?

Does the next village not have a much higher change of not burning down if you just leave all the ones who did not want to hear the warnings?

I know it might sound awfully cruel.

But if people are not even curious in the slightest when someone tells them there is a fire coming and that their actions are part of what causes the fire.

Then these are probably not the people you want to have in your next village after this one burns down right?

And besides isn't it counter productive to say on one hand: "I think a world without fire is worth fighting for".

And on the other hand: "I must warn and help the people who cause the fire and whom have shown no interest to stopping or preventing fires what so ever"?

Hi Nick and Vudewnl,

Thanks very much for your feedback on my first video, it was really helpful.

NICK: You're a stacker! Excellent to read that, I've been an investor in precious metals since late 2010. I say metals, but really I mean metal. I'm all silver! I subscribed to your YT channel, keep them coming! In regards to what you said about the pace of my speech, you're quite right, it could have been faster.

VUDEWNL: Addressing the first part of your reply, I know how you feel. Its hard to predict exactly where the "fire" will strike and how bad it will be.

This is my next video, its about the coming economic collapse. I've sped up my speech and did some editing to make it feel faster paced.

Thanks again for your feedback, always happy to hear more!

Long silver since 2002, 2003 here. I was still a teenager then, of course I wish I put all my money into it at that time. But I'm sure everyone says that with purchases that increase significantly. Still waiting for it to hit $50+ again.

Bought some of Chris Duane's silver mintage, too bad he jumped the shark.

Enjoyed your video, keep it up!

To quote an employee from my fave lunch place:  "People are idiots."

I used to be one too, especially before the internet.  Now, the info is all available, just have to responsibly look.  But who does that?  Any one who does, is already aware of the "fire threat."  I responded negatively years ago to people, again pre-internet, who said something against the great flawless society and gummint in which I'd been raised.  Now I realize that I'd been totally duped, in part by others who'd been totally duped.

I think that most people have trouble with a free standing fact or two, against the giant wall of previous belief.  Never mind truth, it's a small fact against a big belief.  I really don't know how to approach that.  It seems to take Godzilla smashing a person's home to get them to notice anything, and even then they'll misinterpret it.
