MiraiRonin Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Pretty good stuff. I'll admit I cringed a bit when he said "Countries that have kings and queens, (which are rationally stupid, weird ideas) are empirically freer and more socially just than countries that don't." Some research into Saudi Arabia wouldn't have gone amiss, even setting aside the problems with 'social justice' and 'equality' as a moral good. See 9:30 for what's driving people nuts.
Maquox Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 I'd rather live in a monarchy with a good king than in the USA today. I would still be a slave, but they would take far less from me... God are Social Justice Warriors stupid, applause to Fry. 1
MiraiRonin Posted April 19, 2016 Author Posted April 19, 2016 I'm reminded of a previous French caller to Stef, who favoured monarchy because at least a hereditary ruler would think about leaving the country in a decent condition for his children.

He was obviously talking about European christian sourced kingdoms as opposed to the rest of the European countries or even the US. And while Saudi Arabia is a theocratic monarchy, a very good example of a much freer muslim monarchy in the middle east is Jordan which stands as evidence to what was chance was lost with the abolition of monarchy in Iran, Iraq and Egypt. Funny enough, the House of Saud is more of a prisoner to the priestly caste and should they even think about enacting any kind of reforms they would be shot down faster than the Shah of Iran was and we'd get an Islamic Republic or an Islamic Caliphate instead of it which would still be a worse option than what we have now. I agree there's a lot of comical exaggerations but there must be some truth behind it and it's the saudi prince that made it happen.
