raz1911 Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 VIJAY Chokalingam wanted to go to medical school in the United States but he thought his grades and ethnicity were holding him back. So he pretended to be black. The Indian born 38-year-old sought to exploit what he believed to be the unspoken affirmative action policies of the big universities by conducting a “twisted social experiment.” After watching many of his “better qualified” Indian-American friends get rejected, he represented himself as a “black man” and believes it was the crucial factor in his acceptance. http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/real-life/true-stories/the-brother-of-actress-mindy-kaling-pretended-to-be-black-to-get-into-medical-school/news-story/ff63518ab5e8f3bca32999cc5423504c His website http://almostblack.com/faq/ The book might be interesting when it comes out. Would be cool if Stefan could chat to him about it.
Koroviev Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 I've been saying people should do this for years! unfortunately not until after I passed all of my standardized tests and got into college, but even if they say something it's racist to judge someone based on their skin color
AncapFTW Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Reminds me of all of the half-black people in the 19th and early 20th century that pretended to be white to go to school/get a job/etc. I guess when dealing with racists it's ok to lie to them to overcome their racism.
Mister Mister Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 It's funny and sad that it has to be Asians in white countries who bring light to this issue and take a stand http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/11/18/rejected-asian-students-sue-harvard-over-admissions-that-favor-other-minorities.html
