corpus mentium
Computing Forever made a video recently about a new platform in the works. I'm not sure if it's been officially unveiled yet.

Mister Mister
don't know of anything atm, but it seems like it's only a matter of time before something comes along.I think the future of social media is not a centralized corporate structure like Facebook or Twitter, but something more open-source and customizable, where we connect directly to one another, rather than through some central hub where they can control trends of information flow. rosencrantz
There is no alternative to twitter as a platform. The best application is of little use when few people use it.
shirgall
Twitter is a write-only service when you get to a certain size of followers. I use it as a necessity for work, not for changing the world.
Together-Whenever-Wherever
INTERESTING that you asked this on August 16, because on August 15, just the day before, a website called Gab debuted. It's billed as the free-speech alternative to authoritarian minded sites like Twitter. It's becoming a haven for members of the Alt-Right fleeing the draconian censors of big social media. I heard about Gab through Alt-Right personalities like Mike Cernovich and Alex Jones. There's a waiting list at the moment, because the response was bigger than the creators expected so it might take some time before you can create an account. https://gab.ai/
