Over the past few weeks many of the youtube channels I follow have been asking to click the bell for notifications.

These channels have been complaining about views dropping and implying that their revenue stream is being hijacked to push corporate sponsors.

This trend began a few months ago at which point I began to fully appreciate the structure of the show

The initial triggering was caused by Youtube refusing to pay any ad revenue for videos featuring "inappropriate" content, which has now been followed by another cut to their revenue with this new system that limits their exposure by interfering with the established relationship they have with their customer.

The fallout of this change has resulted in the "red pilling" of many high profile youtube stars.  Channels I avoided or else I would rant about I am now enjoying and sharing with people.

Has anyone else kinda noticed this shift in everything that's been coming out lately?

A while back, like 2-3 years or so, youtube also lowered their percentage revenue share for creators, which made quite a few successful channels uneasy.

All of these things coupled with the latest is probably just halfway of what they will do to their sla... uh... creators. And they have no legal recourse since they signed a contract where it says google/youtube can change the contract at any time.

This is why youtubers are starting ie patrons. They will always find ways to get around problems in an anarchic internet.

I think the problem with You Tube is it is getting so big that it is getting harder for anyone to get noticed. At the same time there is so much content to choose from that if they don't try and figure out who is watching what and likes what then there will be no way to effectively monetize videos. Add to that the "problem" with "controversial topics", and companies not wanting to advertise their products in front of certain people and you have a recipe for disaster.

I think You Tube has passed the peak of its height. At this point it is becoming an outdated model. I think in the next five years you will see people moving back to having their own independent websites for their content. Like geocities back in the day, but with much higher production values.
