Corporal punishment in the black community

Thought I'd share this gem I found on the apa website.

 

tl;dr: All problems in the black community are caused by evil white racism. Blacks have no control over their actions and only act in response to whites. Africa was literally an peaceful parenting utopia before whites came and ruined it.

Sounds like something my family would say, except they couldn't care less about giving up corporal punishment.

I actually think the violence is particularly worse in single parent homes. One parent has less of an awe factor than a unified front. In particular, teen boys are often less awed by their mothers. I think the violence we see today evolved into being to compensate for the shortage of parents. The weaker the tyrant...

Yeah there was no history of violence against children in Africa before the Atlantic slave trade, all those children who were taken in wars and sold for centuries before that trade raised peacefully as were those that enslaved them.  Because lots of peacefully parented societies have generations of slave-taking warfare.
