The school “ hosts a magnet Humanities and International Studies Program (HISP). Selection for HISP—an open enrollment opportunity district-wide—is highly competitive and entails additional requirements, including an essay exam, submission of transcripts, test scores, and teacher recommendations.

HISP has additional requirements both academic and extracurricular (community service and cultural event attendance).”

Apparently there has been some criticism of the program because the numbers of students accepted into the program are disproportionate when viewed by race.

A student in the program did a project for the science fair attempting to test a hypothesis that the disparity was due to IQ rather than racial bias.
