Hundreds of pets, protected species killed by federal agency
SimonF replied to Alan C.'s topic in Current Events
"The traps, set on communal property owned by the neighborhood association, were meant to kill an infestation of nutria, rat-like pests that pose no danger to people but can be harmful to the environment." I think at this point it's pretty obvious that humans are the single most "harmful to the environment" species around, perhaps then these concerned state employees should kill themselves?! -
I am confused by notions of "sexism" and "equality". While I personally find sexism and racism (aka preference discrimination) abhorent, isn't it a natural right to have freedom of association and doesn't this permit such discrimination? Of course "equality" enforced by a mob with guns is no kind of equality.

The name "Truth" for Stefan's new film
SimonF replied to henry_van_horik's topic in General Feedback
Not wow, but after some contemplation I think the title very aptly and succinctly describes Stephan and his material. -
Yet there's no scientific evidence milk is healthy, let alone biologically appropriate beyond childhood (for breast milk). This is a particularly cynical marketing exercise that shows the FDA up.

She may place a low value on her life, but removing a premeditated murderer from society is probably a good thing.

I recommend the drug called love. It doesn't cost any money, is legal but harder to find than the other drugs.

US business hits out at ‘Obamacare’ costs
SimonF replied to Alan C.'s topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
Way back when there was a property tax rated by the number of windows on the home. And you'd never guess it, but people bricked in their windows. I just hope a day comes where a lot more people come to see politicians for the bafoons they are. -
I think they are supposed to cover costs themselves, because it's "for the cause".

cos even the Nazis got the trains to run on time... so government must be good

What philosophical T-shirts would you like to see? Feedback needed!
SimonF replied to hkw's topic in Listener Projects
I rarely go out wearing a t-shirt, if I have one on it's to bum around the house. I prefer stylish casual hoodies or polo shirts. So how about something more up market? Or will people not spend more money to make political and philosophical statements? Must they forever be consigned to t-shirts? -
So I read someones grumbles about Stef and Adam charging for an anarchist convention recently, apparantly anarchists are supposed to do events for "free". I don't believe the event in question is even organised by Stef and Adam, they are just speakers. But critics rarely worry about such details. And then I got to thinking that Stef alone produces more free material in a week than all the red and black factions combined produce in a year. I spent some of my adolescence around red and black anarchists, at the time they were the anarchist movement as such. They occassionally put down their beer and tobacco long enough to escape their parents house, squat or state subsidized accomodation to organise some flag waving or exchange dusty books amongst themselves at free book fairs. If not that, then it's busting up someone elses property, cos that is theft, and then going back to their well locked up abodes. This speaks volumes to me at a chasmic difference between the capitalistic and communistic mentality amongst the anarchist factions. The only time commies will produce a "revolution" is when the state helps them, no wonder. Way to go.

Stefan did a program on this, I seem to recall it as being taken from a book or paper. -
Ninety per cent of children with ADHD (attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder) are not being helped by medication. The drugs do not improve symptoms such as hyperactivity and inattention, and the children may as well not be taking them, new research has found.Nine out of 10 children with moderate to severe ADHD saw no improvement in their symptoms, even six years after diagnosis and after taking medication. Symptoms were the same in children taking drugs and those who weren’t.Researchers from the John Hopkins Children’s Centre made the discovery after they tra...... http://www.wddty.com/medication-doesn-t-help-adhd-children.html

Although I see much merit in the 80/10/10 way it is simply wrong to suggest that unlimited carb intake will not induce weight gain. The human body is metabolically adapted to store fructose as fat probably something that evolved during fruiting seasons in millenia gone by to give a store of energy out of the fruting season. Have a look at some of the videos on YouTube about this such as the one below. [View:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89IJg-4BZyg]

I would not consider precious metals an "investment" because their value is unlikely to increase. On the other hand they are an excellent store of your surplus value because their value is also unlikely to decrease (substantially). You can of course trade in some gold or silver for paper money to go shopping now, and that will probably remain so even when the states false money fails and gets replaced by something else.So long as people want gold or silver it will be tradable for paper currency. Long term paper currency may get replaced by electronic currency like bitcoin.

Commuters' wasted time in traffic costs $121B
SimonF replied to Alan C.'s topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
I wonder if a lot more of us would be telecommuting or going on bicycles if the state would stop subsiding roads for rent seeking employers. Still, the tax on fuel must be something of a disincentive and keep sme pf the traffic volume down. How do you envisage transport in a free world? Building roads would be a lot more challenging and far more costly if all land were privately owned, yes? -
