Help bring philosophy to Russian-speaking people! Hi all! I recently created Russian subtitles for the audio part of "The Story of Your Enslavement," as seen in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHckEEYSV_c#t=84 I got good feedback about the quality of the subtitles, along with a suggestion that to target the Russian and other Eastern European audiences, there needs to be a voiceover, because those audiences are much more used to dubbed videos, as opposed to reading subtitles. I agree with that, and I decided to do a quality Russian voiceover for the video, with new subtitles that would translate the English text in the video, so that viewers get more of a complete understanding of the content. I decided to crowdfund this project: all in all I need $250 worth of BTC ($80 for a quality mic, and $170 for my work). Given today's BTC price, it's 0.78 BTC. Please donate to the following BTC address: 168pMRR4hj4VxPUghym681Ri3t7wcuiTC2 I will produce the voiceover-ed video 3 weeks after the target amount (0.78 BTC) is reached. If the target amount is not reached by October 27th, I will transfer all of the received donations to FDR. You can track the balance at this address through blockchain.info. Thank you for your contributions! About me: My name is Max, and I am a psychotherapist and a Russian interpreter/translator. I am also passionate about the non-aggression principle and in particular its application to adults' treatment of children. My previous translation work includes Russian subtitles for several of Daniel Mackler's videos about recovery from mental health disturbances without psychiatric drugs:

A way to crowdfund a project anonymously?

Wow, thanks, surfingthoughts, this is very helpful. I've had the idea about a BTC address too; however what if my target sum is not reached? It would be a pain in the neck to return the donations to everyone (assuming many people donate smaller amounts). But perhaps if my target sum is not reached by the deadling, I could just donate that sum to FDR... I'll wait for a bit longer, in case more advise comes up on here, and otherwise probably will follow your advise. -
Hey guys, I am wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to crowdfund a project without disclosing your real name? The project will be to do a Russian voiceover for "The Story of Your Enslavement," with new subtitles to translate the English text appearing in the original video. I've tried bitcoinstarter.com, but they've been taking forever to approve of my campaign. Any other websites/ideas? Thanks!

Hi Aleles, yeah, the person I speak to shot me a private message from this forum. I saw this other "Story of Your Enslavement" video after I already finished mine. I daresay my subtitles are better - I did the translation myself, and hardcoded them into the video, but it looks like the guy's channel has quite a bit of useful stuff, some of which may not be otherwise available to Russian speakers who don't speak English. Not sure why youtube adds ads to my video - I didn't monetize or anything like that... I myself never saw any ads on this video, even when I pull it up under another youtube account. Weird... Thanks for letting me know though. Not sure what to do about it... @ Aleksey - thanks for updating about life in Russia! It's been a while since I've been there, but it's where I'm from and I'm really interested where Russian-speaking people's minds are in terms of political freedom, as well as understanding child mistreatment.

Hi guys, sorry I've been away from the thread for a while - I haven't really come back to the board for the past months, after I had found a person to speak Russian to, as I intended. But it's cool to see that so many people replied on here. Speaking about FDR content in Russian - I translated Stef's most popular video "The Story of Your Enslavement" into Russian and just uploaded the video with Russian subtitles to youtube. Let me know if you have any feedback about the subs. It's been a long while since I spoke Russian regularly, and I may have lost some of the flow of the language.

I am currently devising my master's thesis study, in which I'll look at whether people's attitudes towards public schooling and unschooling are correlated with their level of general empathy and their level of empathy towards children. To look at this last piece (level of empathy towards children) I am thinking about presenting people with one or more short vignettes describing a conflict betweena child and an adult (probably, their parent) and asking people to briefly describe how they, if they were the adult in the vignette, would go about resolving that conflict. Afterwards, I will look in the replies for things that suggest that the person is mindful of the child's internal experience (e.g., that they asked about the child's feelings, thoughts, or preferences; or that they attempted to respectfully negotiate with the child). So - I'm trying to create those vignettes, and I'm wondering - what, from your perspective, would be some good parent (or adult) - child conflicts that I could include? Anything goes, I just need help brainstorming Thanks!

Thanks, Ben[] (I said it in a Sir Sean Connery accent, of course.)

I appreciate that, hopefully that will bring good karma to this thread.

Hello, all. I am posting this to check whether there are any rational, psychologically aware Russian-speaking people out there (if you are reading this and speak Russian, then quite possibly you are one) and to extend an invitation to such people to send me a personal message and to possibly have a Skype conversation, if we both decide we are interested. Briefly, about myself. I am 28, I am originally from Belarus, currently I live in Seattle with my two best friends and attend a counseling graduate program to become a psychotherapist. Over the past few years I have striven to change my social milieu, so that I only have personal relationships with people who are honest, rational, and curious. This, unfortunately, has eliminated all the Russian-speaking people from my life, and, although it is not the end of the world, I would still very much like to have someone who I could talk to in my first language. If you speak Russian and are interested in philosophy or are just trying to make good logical sense of the world around and inside you, shoot me a message! Max

My video: multiculturalism in psychology and psychotherapy

Here is my second video on multiculturalism in psychotherapy, in which I address the undeniable benefits of being culturally sensitive with clients and the possible abuses of cultural relativism and the notion of "oppression." I welcome your comments! -

Thank you for your permission, Nick! I actually recorded a second video on multicultural competence earlier today, I'll post it here in a little bit - in it I am talking about the undeniable benefits of being culturally sensitive with clients (as you discussed in your previous post) and the possible abuses of cultural relativism and the notion of "oppression." It'll be great to read/hear your comments once it's up! -

Hi Nick, and thanks so much for such a wise and clear response! I would like to make a second video on this, where I am going to provide some examples of the "multicultural perspective gone wrong." Would you mind if I read your response (omitting your name and the mentioning of Stef), as it provides a very rational appraisal of a culturally competent approach to psychotherapy? I'll post a link to the video here once it's ready. -
Hello, everyone! I made a video on "multiculturalism," or "multicultural competence," as it is presented in contemporary psychology and psychotherapy. I'd appreciate any feedback - both on the content, and my speaking style.

Hey guys, One of my psychology professors is going to be doing a presentation on the effects of the Affordable Care Act on psychology/psychotherapy/counseling services, and he asked me to do some research for him on this matter. Does anyone know of any good research/statistics on the subject? Thanks! Max
