I wonder if a pig hater is one who eats pigs or one who doesn't. And what's more interesting, why is it that for ages, Disney has been obsessed with making cartoon characters that look and act like little children, but are meant to be non human animals? And where is this trend leading the western world, now that all sorts of other companies creating products for children do the same, and have been doing so for over a generation? And do you think it has something to do with the widespread radical vegetarianism and veganism?

Eqn demonstrates conspiracy theories would quickly reveal themselves
st434u replied to a topic in Science & Technology
Pulling numbers out of thin air, with parameters that are completely made up, and calling it a "demonstration" is highly deceptive or grossly mistaken. Take vaccines for example. Most people involved actually believe that vaccines are both effective and safe. It's probably only a few who know the truth. Fear of financial ruin or outright assassination, along with the huge profit motive of keeping the secret, can keep the ones who know the truth from speaking out. And of course, not all of them do, because obviously some people are talking about this. That doesn't mean everybody has to automatically believe them. Regardless, all this is not even required to establish the veracity of the theory that states that vaccines are bad. Even if everybody involved believed in them, that would not negate the fact that they are both harmful and ineffective. Or to talk about something else off the top of my head, it's clear that the real reasons the US invaded Afghanistan had nothing to do with Bin Laden, but with securing the opium production for the CIA's covert heroin operation, which is kept massively profitable by a worldwide ban on heroin. Lots of people have talked about this over the years. Yet the drug war is still alive and well, as are the constant US military campaigns around the world and in the middle east in particular. Or take even the stuff that Snowden uncovered, how many people actually believe that their communications are no longer being listened to and/or recorded nowadays? Chances are they are, even if the govt says they're not. -
Is Young Earth Science (YES) a thing?
st434u replied to YoungEarthSciGuy's topic in Science & Technology
I'm not saying fossils don't exist, but in the first two pictures, doesn't it look to you like those may have been carved into the rock? Maybe it's just weird lighting, but it looks to me like the fossil made a dent on the rock's surface and is at a lower level, and not on top of it. -
Is Young Earth Science (YES) a thing?
st434u replied to YoungEarthSciGuy's topic in Science & Technology
Yeah sorry, that's what I meant. I always mix it up because to me, paleontology sounds like the study of the paleolithic period. I keep forgetting it's meant to be the study of the periods up to the paleolithic. I've never looked for fossils myself, but again I would have the same doubts. Is what I'm finding actually the fossilized remains of an animal, or just a rock with strange patterns? And likewise, even if it is the fossilized remains of an animal, how old it is? -
Is Young Earth Science (YES) a thing?
st434u replied to YoungEarthSciGuy's topic in Science & Technology
I haven't researched this enough to have any strong position, so I just assume the old earth hypothesis is correct. It also fits my biases and understanding of the world. I've always been fascinated with dinosaurs and ancient cavemen, for example. As well as the current understanding of the evolution of life on Earth. That said, once I started viewing archaeologists in film, searching for fossils, I sort of got the feeling that they were just either finding something that looked like something that they wanted to find, or outright sculpting a fossil out of a rock in order to claim that it was there all along. This is just a sense and not a strong opinion, but I keep having that doubt in the back of my mind. The only fossils I know for a fact are real are when the whole animal body remains, such as with insects fossilized in amber. But then there's the question of age. Admittedly, I know very little if anything about the science behind radiocarbon dating, but it seems to me that assuming that we can deduce the rate of decay per year for a timeframe of several million years, based on the rate of decay for a given period of time that can be observed in a lab (say 100 years), could be a big mistake. -
Why is dropping oil price bad?
st434u replied to Pelafina's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
Low prices would be good if they were sustainable. They're not. This current crude oil price under $30 is completely artificial, and will not last. I suspect by the end of 2017 oil will be well above $80 at the very least. Much more if there's a dollar crisis, which is coming soon. By 2025, I would be surprised if oil doesn't hit $500 or more. Volatility makes it harder for capitalists to efficiently plan the structure of production and allocate resources to productive investments. When businesses at large fail, the economy suffers. -

Warning, watching the following may make your head explode from so many blatant contradictions of logic and fact. It can also cause outbursts of laughter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_4-BqSIUD8 Among other things, apparently saying to someone "I hate you because of XYZ" is now a hate crime. Even asking someone where they're from, telling them they're articulate, or saying "God bless you" when they sneeze can be forms of these "microaggressions". So much for the NAP.

I would really appreciate some advice...
st434u replied to Thus_Spake_the_Nightspirit's topic in Self Knowledge
An amazing person doesn't go around breaking up people's marriages so that they can get laid. Your marriage is obviously going through some rough times, but the solution is not to seek the affection of another man. The first thing you need to do is dispel this illusion that this friend of yours is an "amazing person", and realize that in all likelihood, this friendship is doomed no matter what, and that at some point along the line, you should've seen this and ended it, but didn't. I suggest you talk to your husband directly about what's going on for you, rather than depending on a counselor to make him talk. Also, no, seeking the attention of another man so that you can make your husband jealous in the hopes of dragging him into counseling is not the way to go. That is in fact one of the surest ways to destroy your marriage. Obviously your husband isn't giving the problems in your marriage the attention they require, but two wrongs don't make a right, they just make the situation doubly bad. About what your husband said on the problems being yours alone and not of the both of you, well in a marriage, if one of the two has a problem, then both of them deal with the problem together, or at least one should support, encourage and advise the other in solving the problem. -
You need to get out of there. That stuff could kill you. For dealing with mold, I've heard blasting the whole apartment with ozone destroys it for good. But you need to leave the apartment for a few days in order to do that.

I guess these things are happening more often now. In France, then the US, and now the UK. All in the span of one month. The murderer's behavior seemed bizarre. The way he stands there with the weapon in his hand doing nothing. I wouldn't be surprised if he was on drugs. Also, not to be insensitive to the victims, but a machete is generally a poor stabbing weapon. It's meant to chop vegetation, so it's main use as a weapon is in chopping or slashing/cutting.

I think there may be a different scale based on ages. It could be that the scale you were measured on was set to 100 as the average for white 13 year olds. If that's the case, it could also mean that your IQ simply developed faster than most. If you had 155 IQ by the adult scale (whereby the average for white adults over 18 is set to 100), then that would mean as an adult you probably have an insanely high IQ, maybe even too high to measure accurately.

Chicken evolutionary changes in only 15 years
st434u replied to shirgall's topic in Science & Technology
Conventional factory-farm chickens are one of the animals bred in the worst conditions. From unhealthy, unbalanced food, extremely confined spaces, to 24/7 artificial light, to antibiotics and drugs and artificial hormones and even toxic vaccines. I wonder the role that these terrible conditions played in the development of these mutations. I personally only eat organic, truly free range chicken, meaning the chickens are raised in the traditional style, where they get to walk around and pick up bugs. They're also not fed GMO corn and soy. They taste much better and the meat is much more firm. -
The breakdown of civilization has a tendency to be preceded, among other things, by the acceptance of deviant and alternative lifestyles that run contrary to family values as commonplace or even desirable. It happened in the Roman Empire and Ancient Greece. I think Russia will be more prosperous in the 21st century than the West, and the lack of anti-discrimination laws is just one of the very many reasons why. Remember, discrimination simply means: "Recognition and understanding of the difference between one thing and another." To be opposed to discrimination is to be opposed to private property, reason, preference, peace, profit, progress, civilization... and even life itself. Furthermore, private property's most fundamental principle is the recognition of the legitimacy of the owner choosing (and enforcing) who may and who may not enter and make use of their property, and on what terms. Along with the rest of the socialists, the "gay's rights" espousers claim all they want is freedom, but they're under the delusion that freedom means free stuff, meaning someone else has to be enslaved and robbed in order to provide them with their "freedom".

Talk about big brother... And this is even worse because at least Big Brother had to pay for it's own surveillance through regular taxes (which is bad enough), here they're forcing ISP companies to pay for the spying and storage thereof, to be served on request to big brother, or else... -
Three reasons I can think of, at least two of which are related to each other: 1) Most celebrities support socialism in it's various ways. 2) Socialists/communists see them as just another worker, who is hired to do a job, whereas they see business owners as the evil capitalists who are extracting surplus value from workers. 3) Socialists/communists can relate to the fact that celebrities are producing something that they want, that would not be possible without their participation. Because they don't understand businesses, profit or the market, they believe that all these three could be eliminated and still have the production of every consumer product and service that they want. They see these three as abstract entities that play no role in the production process, and only fleece surplus value off the people who actually produce them (the workers).

[H&W] Wilderness Survival with Cliff Hodges
st434u replied to J. D. Stembal's topic in Science & Technology
So you take perfectly healthy spring water and contaminate it with chlorine or other chemicals to basically make it into tap water, or even worse. If there should be any fear as to the safety of a water source, industrial waste should be your main concern. You don't solve that by adding even more industrial waste.- 4 replies
