Hmmm... I would consider this to have better information for me than where the poster intended his link to go. This is more to the people who are involved in the project (and asking if anyone else wants to get involved) but I have started trying to go through and add references. I was hoping someone could look at the method I used to make sure it looks ok. Also, there will be a lot of work involved in this, especially the controversial ones or if we want to add podcast links as reference. Any help would be appreciated.

I also do a similar thing with Prosper.com. I set up an auto-investment profile for how much I wanted to invest with which type of person and then it just auto-invests. All I need to do is transfer some savings to Prosper, and the rest is done for me. There are limits by credit rating, term of loan, amount borrowed, and many other things. I can also diversify my P2P holdings by putting a small amount in each one and then factor in an expected loss rate to my expected yield. In general, it has been a fairly easy way to consistently and painlessly make a decent return. My riskier money goes into bitcoin, but that's a bit of a different animal.

Capitalism and The Beast, short video
Wesley replied to alexqr1's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
This post should be advertised as a great example as to why you don't start raging at something after watching 20 seconds of the video. I am very glad as well that you went back to see what you were missing. -

Masters of War Tatiana Moroz http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxxcqXSx2dQ Lyrics: Come you masters of war You that build all the guns You that build the death planes You that build all the bombs You that hide behind walls You that hide behind desks I just want you to know I can see through your masks. You that never done nothin' But build to destroy You play with my world Like it's your little toy You put a gun in his hand And you hide from his eyes And you turn and run farther When the fast bullets fly. Like Judas of old You lie and deceive A world war can be won You want me to believe But I see through your eyes And I see through your brain Like I see through the water That runs down my drain. You fasten all the triggers For the others to fire Then you set back and watch When the death count gets higher You hide in your mansion' As young people's blood Flows out of their bodies And is buried in the mud. You've thrown the worst fear That can ever be hurled Fear to bring children Into the world For threatening my baby Unborn and unnamed You ain't worth the blood That runs in your veins. How much do I know To talk out of turn You might say that I'm young You might say I'm unlearned But there's one thing I know Though I'm younger than you That even Jesus would never Forgive what you do. Let me ask you one question Is your money that good Will it buy you forgiveness Do you think that it could I think you will find When your death takes its toll All the money you made Will never buy back your soul. And I hope that you die And your death'll come soon I will follow your casket In the pale afternoon And I'll watch while you're lowered Down to your deathbed And I'll stand over your grave 'Til I'm sure that you're dead. Song Meaning: Was originally sung and performed by Bob Dylan. However, I think I like this one better. Plus, I have been listening to quite a few of her songs this afternoon and think she should have a spot on the thread.

It would be for drawing purposes. I have found http://www.random.org/draws/ which would be a third-party offering a drawing, which would add a lot to the credibility. It is more for fun/ promotion than anything. I do not think anyone would complain, but I would want the verification just in case. Here is a video to that service: http://www.random.org/guides/video1/ Fees start at $4.95, which I would cover. I would probably cover under $23, which I can't foresee getting over 3,000 entrants. I would pay for the third party if needed, but I am just wondering if another (cheaper) option is available to people who have used something like this in the past.

Does anyone know how I can generate a random number in some sort of verified way? I am preparing for a project, and I would like it to be as open and verifiable as is possible, and the only part that I am missing is if someone were to claim that I chose to direct the output in some way. If it was able to be looked up/verified what my roll was, then it should be able to reduce or eliminate those concerns. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

http://tatianamoroz.com/tatiana-premiers-bitcoin-song-latin-american-bitcoin-conference/ Tips showing support will lead to adding a bridge and 3rd verse to make it a more full song. Regardless, it is quite a good song and always good to support artists in the liberty community!

I upped cynicist's recommendations. I would briefly look at the games you want to play and make sure there are solutions for playing them on a linux system. I have had issues with games on linux in the past, not because it is linux's fault but because the main game companies only produce for Windows. There are ways to run Windows inside of Linux, so it could be fine, but I figured I would give you a heads up as it would be a bit silly to build a gaming computer that had trouble playing the games you wanted to play. I think RAM is pretty cheap right now, and I would throw in a bit more RAM, but that is just my preference. I am not sure exactly where your budget will lie. After all, there can be all the little sneaky things that add cost at the end like a mouse, a headset, a keyboard, a monitor, an extra HDD for storage, etc that always seemed to throw me over budget on my builds. Regardless, happy building!

I try to just always do what I want to do and constantly try to realign myself with my goals and values. I have found that New Year's resolutions often are an excuse for people to just do what they have always done, self attack. Most people fail, and self attack. Occasionally you may succeed because you attacked yourself enough that you stopped doing one bad habit, but still reinforced another bad habit. I feel like there are healthier ways to set and achieve goals than resolution setting. Maybe someone has a link to a good workbook along these lines or something. Most of all, if you want to do something, then do it! If you can't, then make steps so that you can! (Assuming what you want to do is not in the "violation of the NAP" realm of things)

I do know that the cancer treatment set the project back a while, and I also know that they were working on it a few times lately to get the project going again. Possibly someone else will be bale to give you some more specifics.

Animal abuse in an anarchist society?
Wesley replied to kanuuker's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
It you catch a criminal or abuser, I would consider you a hero and give you a discount for anything I was offering. If you release or capture videos of non-crimes or randomly, then that would be considered negative. I would also like to point out that this is just how I would see it. It is impossible to know for sure what standards of proof or consequences there would be in a hypothetical future. This is just an option. -
Animal abuse in an anarchist society?
Wesley replied to kanuuker's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
The easiest way would be to make that information public. I would not do anything with anyone who beat his wife. I am sure if he gets a certain amount of negative reputation, then he would have a lot of trouble buying food or enjoying himself unless he can find a way to make restitution in some way. Besides this, I am sure he will have insurance against crimes happening to him, and in general his insurance would probably be revoked if he did risky behaviors (like commit assault himself). Thus, even if it is not entirely made public and all of society doesn't ostracize him, at minimum it would lead to a pretty substantial cost increase and risk increase as other people would be less likely to do business with him (or charge higher prices to reflect the increased risk) as he would be uninsured or have to switch to crappy insurance that allows wife beating or something. These are just a few of my thoughts that are pretty easy and lead to pretty substantial negative consequences solely by sharing information. Of course, to prevent fraud of reputation, your reputation would suffer similarly if you were known to make false claims. -

Will the price of bitcoin keep going up ?
Wesley replied to aFireInside's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
Long term it is worth many multiples what it is now. It could do anything in the short run (literally, anything) but if it drops to 200, I will be very excited to make a few more purchases with my Coinbase account at that time. -

Bitcoin Vanity Wallets
Wesley replied to ThomasDoubts's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
I used this site to generate the vanity address in my signature: https://bitcoinvanity.appspot.com/ If you want to, you can get the part keys and then load this site in your browser: https://www.bitaddress.org Then go offline and that will increase your security. Let me know if you want a step-by-step. As far as security, I would not use this as a cold wallet. It can be a public tipping address, but I would send it to a wallet that has never touched the internet once the balance gets to anything worth worrying about. -
Peace between Magical thinking and science
Wesley replied to rock siles barcellos's topic in Philosophy
So are you saying that as long as magic or religion do not attempt to make truth claims of any kind (as this is the realm of science) then there can be peace between the two in their separate realms?- 14 replies

"view new content" button does not work on my account
Wesley replied to LovePrevails's topic in Technical Issues
This is a little bit of a shot in the dark, but on the left side, there are options as to when you want to view the new content, like "last 24 hours" or "Just items I follow" and things like that. On your profile, you may have changed that at some point and it is keeping that as a preference for you, but when you log out and log back in to the overall New Content it takes you right to that page. It has done this for me before, so that is how I know that it does it sometimes, but try selecting something more broad when you click the "View New Content" button and see if that fixes things for you. -

Peace between Magical thinking and science
Wesley replied to rock siles barcellos's topic in Philosophy
He also truly believed that none of his comics could be made into movies and resisted them being done so, because comics have the specific ability for the narrator or characters to be telling (or in thoughts, thinking) something and doing things that directly contradict and create these kinds of divergences. I would say that the magical attribution to the "self" as in a soul-like thing inside you is a little weird. I also do not understand why he thinks magic would be how you would get it. In general, I found the terms odd, but in general it was lacking substance to justify the terms and the things he was saying. I also do not understand how this creates peace between superstition/magic and science as it does not have enough substance to make any real link. maybe you could explain it a bit more to me so that I can understand it.- 14 replies

I don't know if this is the best definition, but it is the one I got when I typed it into Google. I would say that I can empathize with the feelings and desires of my dog, but I would say that he does not have as complex or as vivid or as mine or any human just because we have more going on between the ears. I also would say there could be people who are disabled in their mental capacity, or even mostly brain dead who I could empathize with when it would maybe even be difficult for them to know what they are going through. I think you get the idea of what I am saying that complexity of other's emotions or thoughts is not necessary for empathy. I have a problem with the idea of equality of people's inner experiences in complexity and the need to have this feeling for each passerby, as I am sure I do not think about it with the average person I see in the grocery store, but I have empathy for people I care about or know more about. I would be interested as to what your thoughts are in the abstract and what your thoughts are as in what this topic may mean to you personally or emotionally.

I would still listen to Adam if he gets his show up and running. I listen to him because he gets into technology and agorism and does a ton of interviews with anyone he can find that would vaguely be of interest to libertarians and it can be very fun and interesting stuff. I also enjoy his times when he talks to the "uninformed" of our ideas and either shows how dumb people are or shows how "everyone is a libertarian, they just don't know it yet". I think of it as different, but I have not found anything else like FDR, which is why I support it and got much more involved than other things.

The purpose of Bitcoin mining
Wesley replied to Existing Alternatives's topic in Science & Technology
Well blocks are 25 BTC right now, and also there is a large set-up for older machines (they are getting more plug 'n play nowadays). However, yes it is possible, just super unlikely. On average, you will spend many multiples the energy in electricity costs and never get any rewards. Cryptography itself works on these principles where it is possible to break into your bank account, but the cryptography is strong enough that if you tried to brute-force it it would take thousands of years to get the right combination and cost you far more than the account is worth. Or with bitcoin, you could take the power of the sun running for the lifespan of the earth and then possibly you would be able to break it, at least based on current code-breaking methods. All of these are technically possible, but you shouldn't try to do them because the odds are so stacked against you (and many powers more for each example) that it isn't worth trying as you are mathematically guaranteed to not make a profit.
