  1. 1. All mass has a force that attracts other masses. This has been shown in experimentation many times. Just as the rock falls to the earth, the earth falls toward the rock. Comparably, since the rock is so small, the affect of gravity on the earth is undetectable. However, the earth falls around the sun which has been proven. The sun's gravitational pull has a much larger affect on the earth. You can define an origin wherever you want, but when you zoom out to a larger picture, your origin may not make perfect sense as you end up with a bunch of negative numbers. (aka earth falls around sun, which falls around the center of the universe) 2. Anecdotes do not mean anything. Scientists believing it doesn't make it true. God is logically contradictory which makes it not possible for it to exist. There are a ton of available resources on this in these podcasts, online, and other places. 3. Perception applies also to the affects of their actions. We cannot see x-rays, but we perceive their results and can use instruments to see them. Thus, the senses are still used for verification. There is the extent of theoretical physics which cannot be verified yet with senses, data, or experimentation, but they are put forward as potential theories and not truths. 4. The poor in America today are much richer than people who were considered poor in the Middle Ages. This obviously doesn't show understanding of the state of humans in history. In the start of agriculture, the richest were one bad harvest away from possible starvation. We have progressed quite far from this. 5. Those mathematical theories do not apply for change at the checkout, but they do not contradict the math that provides correct change at the checkout. These are vastly different and he is conflating the two.
  2. I don't understand this. It either has or is hasn't. The quote feature is an easy way to tell if it has. Luckily, as I said, this is easily verifiable by everyone as opposed to large abstractions that are hard for people to verify or not. No, I think I am beginning to understand what is going on.
  3. What I am seeing in this thread is a lot of assertions without evidence. This claim of personal attack is very easy to prove by simply clicking a button. I am also interested in how evolution may be incorrect, but that would require evidence. I figured that I would give the option to present evidence in a situation that everyone here can verify and look at and only requires to click a button labeled "Quote". Here are the options of what will happen: 1. The evidence cannot be found and the claim of attack is withdrawn. People gain some respect that opinions will actually be based on evidence, however somewhat more wary for fear of being attacked with claims of personal attacks again. 2. The evidence can be found and is pointed out as evidence. People gain respect and sympathy for your position as attacked people. The boards gets better at identifying personal attack. Everyone wins. 3. The evidence can be found but isn't pointed out and the claim is still asserted. People assume that it was crap as the evidence wasn't presented to them. The rest of this thread is not worth participating in as no evidence that could actually change minds will ever be presented. 4. The evidence can't be found and the claim is still asserted. People assume it was crap as the evidence wasn't presented to them. The rest of this thread is not worth participating in as evidence or lack thereof will not actually change anyone's mind. This is a small-microcosm of asserting claims that need evidence. After all, evidence and empiricism are the standards of truth in science. However, this doesn't have all the preconceived emotions and ideas and it is easily verifiable. I cannot think of a better way to collect evidence as to whether evidence matters in this conversation or if the whole thing will just be arbitrary assertions without evidence.
  4. At risk of stating the obvious, you could not leave comments on liberal YouTube videos. That is not exactly the best proven way to change people's minds, as you have evidenced. You can try a different method. However, this makes me think that you may subconsciously be inviting the attack and that is why you keep doing it and then taking it personally. This is a bit of a shot in the dark, but I am curious if I might be onto something or if I totally missed.
  5. We can get back to this, but i am much more concerned about you calling a post a mentally defective post. You have then said that you meant that he was implying that you were mentally defective, but I see no evidence of this. I would like to see evidence of your assertion. The evidence should be right here in this thread and involves clicking a button labeled "Quote" and then adding a sentence of explanation. Personal attacks are very important to identify and I would be very concerned if I missed one.
  6. That is a good clarification and I appreciate that. I am sure you could reread the post and understand where my confusion was. However, I am still confused as to why you think his post was implying you were mentally defective. Again, I could be easily missing it, so I would like you to point it out. Feel free to click the "MultiQuote" button on any posts and then add your own comments to explain the thought process.
  7. I see the dream repeating in 3. For me, a three-fold repetition tells me that it is very important and that the dream is telling me the same thing in three different ways in the hope that I will get it in at least one of them I also have the benefit of taking input from others who have gone before me Here is what I see in a nutshell: 1. Bus that is driven by a bus driver. Leads to many close calls of near-death. People are not in control of their lives and they have close calls, and eventually die in number 2. 2. Bus people now wait for a train where the train conductor is in control. This results in death. 3. There are a few people who didn't die, but are screaming in torturous pain. Now the tractor driver is in control and they all die. or 4. You wake up, take control of yourself, go off by yourself and as a result, you live. You look back from this point and feel so sorry for the people who did not come with you. I would ask you, in your life, who was the bus driver (past controlling your life) who was the train conductor (current controlling your life) and who is the tractor driver (future controlling your life). Also, will you let them control your life in the present and the future (which in the dream, if you let the train conductor control your life, you are helpless to the tractor driver), or will you take control of your life and make it out before the trainwreck comes?
  8. I am so sorry that happened too you. Being cut off from your emotions, to separate the mind and body... That is a terrible thing to endure. Don't let them win.
  9. If you click the meetups link at the bottom, you can find which cities have the most/ most active population at least by their meetup attendance. You might be able to narrow it down to at least a top 10 of areas with decent FDR communities where you might which to live. (link in case you couldn't find: http://www.meetup.com/Freedomain-Radio/) You may also wish to look into the Free State Project and I think there are other such areas where libertarians, minarchists, anarchists and agorists tend to live together. I think there is one in Texas too, but I can't find what it is called. There may be others. Finally, with the same link as the others, you can find FDR people in your area and start interacting with them. Even if no one is in your area yet, if you go on and start a group, you may start getting people to respond. Hope this is helpful.
  10. Can you point out where such an attack occurred? I would be very interested to downvote the post as I am not a fan of personal attacks, it is against general board guidelines, and someone who does this should be downvoted so that they are known by reputation to potentially do this kind of thing. Of course, "attacking" ideas is different and is somewhat encouraged by the board and should be distinct from attacking the person. I may have missed it, so I am very interested in your response.
  11. My understanding is that comments with the most upvotes are counted in the top comments, but comments with recent upvotes are weighted more heavily. It is their attempt to keep the conversation relevant as videos age for many years. I may be wrong, but that could explain it. In general, I get very sad for the state of the world whenever I read the comments to a YouTube video or mainstream news article that deals with physical child abuse.
  12. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiktaalik Here is a transitional species of fish that had begun to develop lungs, feet, and other tetrapod-like characteristics. Fish who were able to develop muscles and skeletal structure to start having load-bearing limbs became the species that won out the natural selection game in areas of shallow water pools and muddy land.
  13. I have my Bitcoin: Getting Started thread in my signature for anyone who wants an overview of bitcoin and the fundamentals. Coinbase is great and easy to use, and definitely go for two-factor authentication. For anyone who wants to do this, please use the link www.fdrurl.com/coinbase which is the FDR referral link. Even if you do not donate to FDR, simply using that link and purchasing $100+ will lead to $5 worth of bitcoin being donated to FDR. If anyone has questions I am very much willing to answer bitcoin questions or give links, resources, or explain concepts related to cryptocurrencies. Now, @Adrienne, you have mentioned avoiding a foreign transaction fee. What country are you located in? There may be easier or different options depending on what country you are located in. Currently, Coinbase only works with a US-based bank account. They are working to expand, but you could imagine some of the regulatory hurdles they may need to go through. If you are in the US, then I would certainly recommend Coinbase, but I wanted to make sure there wasn't something more complicated.
  14. I am really sorry that your friends are not the kind of people you feel like you can share what is important to you with. I would highly recommend talking through things with a therapist.
  15. You can tell it is a silly argument from the opening picture, where Communism is represented by a black and white, serious picture of Karl Marx and Capitalism is represented by a caricature of a Wall Street guy in the form of an actor smoking a cigar in a nice suit. Right there you can tell it isn't a serious attempt at philosophical or economic critique, but a way to attempt to normalize Communism and caricature Capitalism in the eyes of the public who may not know better.
  16. When education is measured as knowing useless, state-decided information like arbitrary historical facts or complex math that I would never need to use in my life, that might be how the ranking system is. In fact, the idea that there can be a centrally-decided way as to determining what people know is absurd. I may know cryptocurrency which they have never heard of so it doesn't count for education. I also may not know useless things like who the 5th president was, but they would consider me to be less educated that someone who could regurgitate that fact. I measure success in education on the lack of immoral force, violence, and theft used in creating the system, the happiness of the child in the moment, and finally their ability as children, teens, and adults to self-actualize. I can guarantee that these standards do not make the statist list of education standards, but useless and arbitrary skills and facts do.
  17. No problem, I am glad that I was able to provide some help.
  18. As I understand, Bill Nye's goal has always been to make science easy and accessible for everyone and to try to ignite a passion in them, with the idea that the future requires scientists and engineers to create the better future for America and the world. Thus, he is trying to be very cordial "soft" probably as a way to reach out to a handful of creationists who might be on the edge, likely realizing that Ken Ham and devoted creationists aren't worth changing very much. Ken Ham's main argument is that the past doesn't follow the rules of the present that we can observe, so both creationists and evolutionists are using faith. Which is very silly that somehow the past is this "other realm" in which science and evidence don't apply. I hope that someone was ignited with a passion for reason and science and that positive things came out of this.
  19. Quick bump in case people missed this yesterday. This will be happening tonight.

  21. Where did you think that sandy explosives testing site was?
  22. Just to add a small correction. I believe he is running in 2020, so that he can use any "hindsight is 20/20" puns that he may want to use. So not the next election, but an election in the relatively near future.
  23. Ok, I'm done.
  24. How do you know? I find that I tell people information (ridding of ignorance) and they get angry and more certain of their original position. Complacency is somewhat different. com·pla·cent kəmˈplāsənt adjective adjective: complacent 1. showing smug or uncritical satisfaction with oneself or one's achievements. I do not quite understand how this applies.
