No, because I choose what property I am willing to use as collateral to lower my DRO premium. The state takes whatever they want. The just need to write it on their paper (usually). I get no choice.

I Was Taught How to Enjoy Inflicting Pain on Others
Wesley replied to MysterionMuffles's topic in Peaceful Parenting
Depending on your writing skill or speaking skill, you probably could write a screen play where characters are you and your mother or a friend who knows you well and the situation could play you while you play your mother. I think you know exactly how the conversations will go and whether or not something positive can come out of it. If you are still unsure after practice (or think something good will come from it) then you can always put it to the test and have the conversation. Then afterwards either everything will be fine as it went positively or you can figure out where you went wrong and make that block about your mother more conscious. However, I think you already know what would happen if you were to speak about your experiences with this issue with your mom and aunt. This is why you are asking for input on how to start it- because you are looking for the magic words that will make this conversation go well and for you to feel heard. -
I am not sure how prevalent this is, how to prove it, or if it is happening to anyone else. I assumed that I was seeing all of chat and may have just missed the occasional message that lead to awkward entrances/exits from conversations or had no effect. However, a couple days ago I was in chat while someone was telling a story (maybe 13-16 people in chat) and the story made absolutely no sense. I was asking for people to fill me in on the details and I was still getting random responses missing to the point where I had to leave the chat. I am not sure how to replicate, test, figure out the issue, or even know if I had experienced it before (as I may not have noticed the missing messages before). My computer was Windows 7, browser Google Chrome. Maybe if a couple others can verify that they have experienced this problem then it will add some credibility to it. PS: I was going to post this in the issues app under chat, but there was some sort of database error and it wouldn't let me at the time.

The price system is what helps people price out their wants. For instance, I may want a gold car, but not if it will cost me $500 million dollars. I could buy a couple homes and food for the rest of my life and I have 10,000 other wants that all take priority over the want of the gold car. Choice and price is all about making choices as to which wants are more important to you. Yes, my wants are technically infinite and I can never get everything that I would want, but this is not unfair in any way. The moon and Spain thing doesn't apply. you should look up the principles of homesteading. Also, anything I want to buy must have a seller who agrees on the price. This means that my acquiring property gives someone else money to buy something they want. Finally, any exchange makes everyone wealthier. If I want to buy your pen for a dollar, I must want the pen more than the dollar and you must want the dollar more than the pen or the exchange would not happen. This is axiomatic to the exchange.

NAP Doesn't Apply to Children, Says Walter Block
Wesley replied to Magenta's topic in General Messages
Wait, so I can hit my girlfriend as long as it doesn't leave scars? Police can throw me in jail as long as it doesn't leave scars? People can torture me as long as they don't leave any scars (think water-boarding)? Yea, this is obviously illogical defenses rearing their ugly head. Walter Block doesn't want to look at himself as a child abuser. He also seems to not have met Stefan who has a child and thinks that the NAP should apply to children. There are many more libertarians that follow in that thread of thought who have children as well.- 15 replies

it is still in process. I see you are a gold donor. If you look in the Gold + threads there is a copy of the first draft that Stef was asking for feedback on. You could read that if you don't mind the possible occasional error.

Is it "healthy"/"okay" to have a "cuckold" fantasy/fetish?
Wesley replied to Filosophize's topic in Self Knowledge
I would also like to point out how common sexual abuse is and to add some info to Daisy's post. I never would have thought that I was sexually abused. Until I realized that my parents cutting off half my penis when I was a baby through circumcision is obvious and terrible sexual abuse. Not to mention any spanking on the rear is also terrible sexual abuse and humiliation and also happened to me. Sexual abuse is incredibly common even despite these "common" and "normal" forms of it. I do not remember the statistics, but they were crazy high like 1/3 of women and 1/4 of men were sexually abused. Maybe someone else can back me up on those statistics with more accurate/confirmed ones. Many people do not remember the abuse until later in life. I am not saying necessarily that these things happened to you, only that I would not be surprised if they did and I would be very, very sorry if they did. Sexual abuse is way too common. -
In general, my understanding is that panic attacks often happen when you start getting anxious about being anxious. 1. Stimuli or other such thing as Alan listed 2. Makes you feel anxious 3. You become anxious about being anxious 4. Now you have more anxiety because you are even more anxious 5. Repeat step 4 until you pass out or are able to break the infinite loop and calm down This also can happen when your self-attacks resemble the abuse that you suffered (xelent's blog post went into this, but I just skimmed it quick) which has a similar self-amplifying loop. (Self-attack which makes you feel bad which causes you to self-attack more). The goal to solving it would be to process the pain and memories from your childhood with a good therapist- likely who specializes in panic disorders.

I do not know this guy, but I have done a lot of experimentation myself and would encourage others to try it. If you aren't sure what diet is best for you, take some blood tests and weight/size measurements, do a diet dor a coule months and then check to see the changes. I am a big fan of N=1 experiments where you can actually measure the results. My understanding is there are healthy and unhealathy fats, healthy and unhealthy saturated fats and healthy and unhealthy trans fats. In the saturated fat category, coconut oil is great healthy saturated fats where industrial seed and vegetable oils (you know, the ones that are government subsidized and everywhere?) aren't very good. In general, monitoring and keeping track of your own health is much preferable to just following doctors anyway. I read a paper about how cholesterol is not very well correlated with heart disease, and that the LDL partcile size as well as the ratio of LDL and HDL were much better measures. Unfortunately, my PCP did not keep up on his medical research and wasn't even aware of the particle size test that I wanted, so I had to spend 30 minutes explaining what the test was in order for him to sign off the sheet. (New York doesn't allow me to get my own blood tests) and then I went to the lab and they weren't sure which vial they needed to put my blood in for the test because they didn't know what the test was. It was rather frustrating to take so long to get a test that was better at monitoring heart disease than the conventional and the information had been around for a couple years by then.

Whenever someone can figure out (and assure others) that the mistakes made by Dread Pirate Roberts have been solved and potential sellers/customers can be assured of this. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-24371894 It appears he used an email address that linked to his actual name when marketing the site. That email address had then been linked with the IP address that was in the source code of the SR that was the only one allowed to change things, and was 500 yards from Ulbricht's residence. Then a coincidental customs check that discovered Ulbricht getting fake IDs shipped to his house in order to get more servers. Finally, on another message board he asked intricate questions about the source code of SR and associated the name with his real name.

My understanding is he didn't succeed, he just attempted/solicited it. I may be wrong.

Yes, I was watching this story when bitcoin took a bit of a hit today, however it didn't seem to phase things too much and it seems bitcoin is recovering already. In general, when you run the world's biggest drug trafficking site, it is less than ideal to unsecurely attempt to hire a hitman to take out someone. Generally..

TOP 5 REASONS I STOPPED CARING ABOUT POLITICS - Paul Rosenberg
Wesley replied to zg7666's topic in Miscellaneous
To me it seems that when you realize how meaningless political discussions are as they are just the extension of psychology, then it does feel like a waste of time to get in there with any intensity. It feels like trying to move a shadow instead of trying to move the statue creating the shadow. -
Dream Interpretation Request- Illuminating Fake Expression
Wesley replied to Wesley's topic in Self Knowledge
@Lens actually helped me a bit with this last night with our group that meets to talk about self-knowledge and psychology topics. The main thing that was discussed was a lack of connection to anyone there. This resonated a lot with me as I have only felt connected to about one friend at a time for most of my life, and not to my parents. I have made some relationship mistakes in the past because I was with the person only to not feel alone. It is a combination of my not wanting to be vulnerable with people to figure out who accepts it and who rejects is, but also that many of the people I have been with put on these fake expressions and "rubber suits" in order to stop any potential emotional or physical connection. I think the dream also reveals that this was why my mother had children, was to feel connected to someone who was dependent on her- and why she was devastated when my brother left and would be if I left. Last night I did a lot of thinking and cried a little bit. It was small but good for me as it was the first time in 1.5-2 years. This is where I want to go is to gain a real connection to my feelings and to be vulnerable with people. I know a lot of things, but I do not feel them emotionally in the same way that others do. I wanted to go there with my last therapist, but she did not seem capable of it no matter how much I asked for it. This is what I need to work on. -

Should I Debate Statists?
Wesley replied to FireShield's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
Why do you need to get the news? How do you usually feel during these debates? Have you ever seen the Bomb in the Brain series? Do you think that these people are able to be changed? (If no, then what are you trying to achieve by debating them?) [if yes, then what is your evidence for this?] Why do you feel the need to argue these things? What is your past experience with trying to change peoples minds? (the earlier the better) Why would not debating make you feel depressed? -
The Principle of Self-Ownership and Natural Rights.
Wesley replied to Camel Glasses's topic in Philosophy
Maybe, but that is not what you said. You said that it would be fine for anyone to use your body in any way that they can. This means rape is fine as long as I am able to succeed (thus the "can"). -

This statement implies that successful rape is perfectly fine, but unsuccessful rape would be bad. -
FED setting interest rates question
Wesley replied to LovePrevails's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
All interest rates are linked to the Fed rate. If it is a loan, then they get money from the Fed at 1% they will loan at 5% and make 4%. If they get money at 5%, they need to give a loan at 9% to make money. For savings, if they get free money they have no need for your savings. Savings interest is the rate to entice you to loan to them. If the fed rate is 5%, they may have a savings rate at 4-5% to get money a bit cheaper and be able to loan that money out. If they get free money, then the savings rate will be almost nothing (as it is) because they could care less about your money. They get free money anyway. Thus, true
