  1. From: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stockholm_syndrome "Generally speaking, Stockholm syndrome consists of "strong emotional ties that develop between two persons where one person intermittently harasses, beats, threatens, abuses, or intimidates the other." (...) From a psychoanalytic lens, it can be argued that Stockholm syndrome arises strictly as a result of survival instincts. Strentz states, “the victim’s need to survive is stronger than his impulse to hate the person who has created the dilemma." These sentimental feelings are not strictly for show however. Since captors often fear that their affection will be perceived as fake, captives eventually begin to believe that their positive sentiments are genuine."
  2. I don't care about my parents now, and I certainly don't care about what happens to them in their old age. As KeepOnGoing has said above, you reap what you sow--and my parents have sowed nothing but misery, abuse and neglect. If I get "the call" from a dying parent or family member, I will tell them that the end did not come soon enough for them and hang up the phone.
  3. I would respond much more favorably to someone contacting me through social media and gradually building a rapport. If a man I've never met approached me to give me a note and then walked off, I would find that to be intimidating/creepy and would likely be afraid that I am being stalked.
  4. I'm confused about why this was posted. Do you really think that it's the existence of encoded language that people here are skeptical of? We are--what--like roughly 70% computer scientists/software engineers here? I highly doubt that the idea of encoding or cryptography is lost on this community.
  5. Looks like the conspiracy runs deeper than we thought. . .
  6. You were kicked for verbally abusing other members. Sounds reasonable to me. Also: good riddance.
  7. I can only hope that he has updated his views in light of Wikileaks, and the effect it has had on informing the general public of corruption within the government.
  8. I don't feel empathy in this situation, but I also do not feel the need to mock anyone. Might there be a bit of black-and-white thinking going on here?
  9. Ideally, girl would have some men around her which are capable of delivering physical consequences to boy for his threats and harassment.
  10. im·mi·grant ˈiməɡrənt/ noun noun: immigrant; plural noun: immigrants a person who comes to live permanently in a foreign country. I'm not an immigrant. I was born in this country. So no, we are not all immigrants.
  11. Stefan has stated that he is convinced a cultural/demographical tipping point has either been reached, or that reaching it is imminent. I hope I am not mischaracterizing what he has said, but I believe that he sees adherence to western values as a necessary condition for peaceful parenting to effect meaningful change on the world. If you accept this premise, and it is true that those values are being aggressively eroded, then it makes sense to switch your focus to the restoration of those values so work can continue. I hope someone will correct me if I have misrepresented his position.
  12. He has actually been mentioned many times throughout the years. If I remember/encounter any specific instances, I will point you there. It can be difficult to keep track of specific content within the podcast series.
  13. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Community_Reinvestment_Act http://www.forbes.com/2008/07/18/fannie-freddie-regulation-oped-cx_yb_0718brook.html From forbes link above: "The CRA (community reinvestment act) forces banks to make loans in poor communities, loans that banks may otherwise reject as financially unsound. Under the CRA, banks must convince a set of bureaucracies that they are not engaging in discrimination, a charge that the act encourages any CRA-recognized community group to bring forward. Otherwise, any merger or expansion the banks attempt will likely be denied. But what counts as discrimination? According to one enforcement agency, “discrimination exists when a lender’s underwriting policies contain arbitrary or outdated criteria that effectively disqualify many urban or lower-income minority applicants.” Note that these “arbitrary or outdated criteria” include most of the essentials of responsible lending: income level, income verification, credit history and savings history–the very factors lenders are now being criticized for ignoring. The government has promoted bad loans not just through the stick of the CRA but through the carrot of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, which purchase, securitize and guarantee loans made by lenders and whose debt is itself implicitly guaranteed by the federal government. This setup created an easy, artificial profit opportunity for lenders to wrap up bundles of subprime loans and sell them to a government-backed buyer whose primary mandate was to “promote homeownership,” not to apply sound lending standards."
  14. Unfortunately, this video has been made private.
  15. I know right; how dare he quote somebody. Pure evil.
  16. Will trans people be included in the group?
  17. How do you know if something is "universally preferable" ?
  18. Very interesting. Thanks for compiling this information.
  19. There are 68 podcasts discussing Donald Trump. You're obviously not looking very hard.
  20. Registered Republican. Voting Trump. Hate me.
  21. This is just pure crap. If your mother accepts this, then she lacks critical thinking skills. She needs to learn how to think first, before any critique can become meaningful.
  22. The metadata thing seems a bit specious to me. I think it's reasonable that they would create digital assets in advance, so that they can publish their materials as soon as possible. Also, let's keep in mind that we're dealing with a situation which had only 2 potential outcomes. I would find the argument more convincing if we were considering an event which was not anticipated and did not have only 2 clearly defined potential outcomes. Maybe I missed something, but those are my thoughts. (f.w.i.w., I support H.R.C for Prison 2016 - 2116)
  23. I'm just curious--why are dragons a "deal-breaker" for you?
