I spent a while in your native Taiwan, in fact I over stayed my welcome and had visa problems!
That was back in the early 80's and I watched Taipei build its first sky scraper, all 8 floors.
Wrapped in bamboo scaffold with a hundred men running around in it like birds in a cage.
The free market economy was alive and kicking just like Hong Kong away to the west.
Even now when I travel East I still find the freedom of
de-regulation so refreshing so I can understand your frustration.
