I'd like to add that as consumers of freedomainradio, I think it is not unreasonable for us to spend some time looking at how we were raised. In this case, about WHY you lack listening skills. Others have hinted at your mother being a possible influence. From all I have heard about Stefan's relationship with Izzy, it seems that positive parenting would make it less likely that a child has weaker "listening" ability. I hope you can get to the cause of the problems.

I have recently begun serving as a "big brother" at my local church where I help our college freshman males learn basic skills such as shorthand note-taking, how to read scientific journals, etc. As we continued on to ethics and female nature, the revelation of a pertinent situation got me thinking of a logo. Nearly every student I have spoken to who ended up going to the local university rather than the far one that they really wanted, the parent had universally expressed concern that the student would actually never return if they went away. I think this may be a decent way to approach incentivizing rationality. Something along the lines of "Don't be part of the first generation of people to deliberately be kept from their grandchildren by the parents". Can anyone think of a better way to convey this?

Pretty soon, we're going to have to downgrade the argument to a single image or logo. I can start brainstorming one of those.

A professor in an intro behavioral neuroscience course I took told us about the decades of publishing self-censorship in biological science. It was completely normal to scrap all evidence of your experiment if your results were not what you wanted. Ever since the moderate increase in "research ethics" awareness, we have wasted a significant amount of resources on mistakes made that would likely have been avoided with the deleted data. Corporate research seems to be better until it works with government to establish monopolies on their industries in the name of "safety". It's hard for me to take many of my colleagues seriously when they habitually rely on the findings of papers with unrepeatable results. I can only imagine the effect on the non-science population.

Strange... my Asian mother started out defensive and then began apologizing. After slow, but apparent effort to change, I am finally treated as a human. I have experienced sharing the journey with others and hearing about how horrible it went. I think the key difference in my case was my mother taking her own contradictory statements seriously. She also intends to reform herself so her grandchildren aren't quarantined because she knows I am 100% fine with total deFOO if she even slips up once. Is there any particular reason you want to convince her to acknowledge the argument?
