  1. I certainly think that under a gold standard deflation would occur, given economic growth exists that is capable of offsetting the amount of newly mined gold. In my opinion though your initial post is economically highly fallacious. What does growth by 100% even mean? Was that measured in gold prices? Was that measured in "real" terms? What do "real" terms even mean given the changes in the kind and quality of products available at the beginning of the century and at the end of it? Obviously trying to quantify any kind of macroecnomic growth is always a vain attempt of shoehorning something into the realm of mathematics and statistics that just does not belong in those fields. Monetary calculation as Mises for exampled pointed out, makes sense for the individual person and business. Using it for long term intertemporal calculations or for quantifying macroeconomic growth can not be scientific in any way.
  2. I think the OP has a very important point here. Technically the state is just the police and the army. The average citizen does not care whether you pay your taxes or not to a degree that would lead him to enforce payment from your end. Only the fact that they can outsource the violence to the police makes them have all kinds of political ideas that in the core are just violence. What it all comes down to is the the psychopaths that constitute the police forces around the world offer the politicans and people their sick service and the people naively taking them up on their offer. I'm actually completely against the idea of the police officers beeing somewhat not guilty and just doing their job. By walking around in that uniform they tell us that they'll kill us if we don't pay up. They're all violent criminals as far as I'm concerned since their mere choice of occupation was that of a robber. They threaten you with armed robbery everyday and actually swore an oath to do so. I really cannot think of any way in which a police officer would not deserve punishment in case we win
  3. Hmm, well the idea seems interessting but honestly it seems unlikely that you could actually package all you really need in a single drink. All those different aminoacids and what not are really tough to prepare in a way to make you not run into any long run problems. Additionally I feel like it could actually lead to serious eating disorders if you tried to completely take the fun out of eating.
  4. Definetly go for it. I don't even think that there is any ethical problem. The government is a criminal organisation and as such will try to extract the maximum amount of property feasibly from it's citizens. Therefore you are not actually taking anything from any citizen, rather you are homesteading unowned property which can not be redistributed to its rightful owners in any practical way as Rothbard put it. Receiving governmental assistance in any case is not a moral crime in my opinion so long as you do not take active steps to ensure that your government keeps stealing from the people you're just changing the usage of the loot. At any rate, long term you're likely to pay more in taxes than you receive now in goodies, so even if you don't follow the reasoning above you're still good to go
  5. From my own experience as an educator I completely agree. Trying to force children to learn stuff at a younger age really does not accomplish all that much in the long run. The only thing that I belive to have actual value is to constantly try to present opportunities of learning to a child. I actually worked with a lot of children from very affluent households here in Germany, where parents basically paid me to for example get their 10 year old to do math at a 10th grade level. I at first achieved very mixed results when just trying to teach them all the concepts directly following a strict curriculum. When I changed to the approach of just presenting the various things we could learn next on the other hand I had huge success with a lot of kids who figured that they'd actually like to know how to solve certain problems. Additionally even though it's no sample size but I had one student that was actually paid by his parents to work with me and also financially rewarded for sucess and I can tell financial rewards just do not work on young children. They either completely loose focus on the long term goals of learning, in the case of older children, or they are still too young to make the connection between educational success, money and the ability to buy what they want with it.
  6. O well definetly a huge touch of irony in the video though. Still appreciating the advantages of the west and understanding how they came about is probably never a mistake. Other cultures are pretty much inferior in general when it comes to the subjects freedom and economic prosperity. To be honest I must admit, that this is pretty much the angle I use to convert conservatives/boarderline nazis to libertarianism or atleast to get them a little closer to it
  7. Yea I actually know that site. Def the best German language one out there at this point in time
  8. Trying my best in that regard Uphill battle though, it appears German culture about political arguments is all about changing the subject once you realize you got no clue what you're talking about. It is really interessting though that most of the material Stefan, mises.org and so on talk about is completely unavailable in the German language at this time so maybe it can bring a little education to the public who knows
  9. Hi everyone, Im a long time follower of the show and I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm a writer and teacher from Bavaria, Germany and in my late 20s. After growing up in the north eastern part of Germay, the former GDR, I was pretty much as far away from beeing a libertarian as possible. I was all into saving the environment, strenghtening the social safety net, keeping foreigners out of Germany and you name it. Moving away from the social democratic ideas I then became somewhat active in the FDP ( a sorta classical liberal party in Germany), but was quickly disappoint by most of the political discours revolving around banalities and how the other partys are dumb statists that want this much welfare while we only want this much. So starting in early 2012 while working on my Phd in physics I got more and more into liberianism. Which definetly played a huge role in me stopping to persue the career in physics (and by that the governmental universities here in Germany) and moving towards building my own private tutoring and ghostwriting business. This has grown fantasticly in the last two years, due to a lack of quality private and public schools here in Germany, and I was able to build quite a brand for myself. Additionally I grew another business of writing, lets call it "articles", in all areas from history and economics to physics and math which has put me in a comfortable spot financially and allowed me to find the time to get involved with various libertarian groups in Germany. Unfortunately their level of understanding in the ideas of freedom is mostly very superficial and most Germans generally completely fail to see government for what it really is. Luckily knowledge of the English language allowed me to digest a lot of the libertarian material out there and I recently have started translating some of it and adding my own ideas to it on my website www.vernunft.co After also trying to get involved with a little online activism, I'm looking very much forward to interacting with the community here, since the German political communities are pretty much unbearable for the most part So I guess thanks for reading and greetings from Germany
