Why is there so much Homophobia in Russia?
Pleiades replied to Kaizerdave's topic in Men's Issues, Feminism and Gender
Would you mind describing what you've observed? There is some weak evidence showing that children of homosexual parents function just as well as heterosexual. If that's true then the requirement for a healthy child is two caring parents, regardless of their genders. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding of gay activism was to have some similar treatments (i.e. marriage) with some protections (i.e. hate crime laws). I don't know if saying they are trying to dilute the importance of a mum and dad staying together. -
Second guessing my decision to go to college, which starts this Fall
Pleiades replied to EricBaker.Linux's topic in Education
Hahaha. This is funny, but it's not really valid. A lot of computer scientists do way more interesting jobs than this. IT jobs like this tend to go to less driven IT people. Still really good, just not as driven for these. Like I said, Eric. You know yourself. You know that you do well in an educational area, and from our talks you are creative and like puzzles. As for debt, there are ways to try and mitigate that debt. For example working as a paid intern in the summer. Or even doing your studies part time. -

More specifically I was referring to his approach of taking quotes out of context, intelligent editing of interviews to make it look like people have said things that they have no, and gross misinterpretations of facts. Essentially a gigantic version of confirmation bias.
-
No... no, they don't. I know plenty of people who not only support him, but think he's brilliant. They can't tell his obviously manipulative use of editing basically means anything that he presents is BS since the bias is way too strong.

Why is there so much Homophobia in Russia?
Pleiades replied to Kaizerdave's topic in Men's Issues, Feminism and Gender
Hi, Kaizerdave, you're right that there's a lot of intolerance towards gays in Russia. But let's look at Russia honestly for a second. Or over the past couple hundred years. Russia is not known as being humanitarian at all. In fact, their monarchy was pretty crazy when it was still in power. Not just the gays, but a lot of indigenous non "Russians" are treated horribly. A gentleman that I worked with can attest to that. So, I hope it doesn't seem like I'm invalidating your question because I think it's very good, but I think that the scope of it is too small. Why is Russia intolerant to basically every non-Russian Russian? -

There's so much BS associated with rape culture. Just change what they've written to be about black people and post it. They won't think it's racist, but it's funny. They don't even understand the parallels.

In the majority of cases having sex is a choice. I don't see why the government should have to pay for your personal choices out of their pocket. On the other hand, investing in birth control can keep female assets in working instead of paying child support for the women who do get pregnant from a lack of birth control. I can see a valid economic argument either way. Morally, forcing a company to pay for something optional which contradicts the owner's belief is coercion. What are your thoughts on this? The next part: Blood transfusions that go against Jehovah's witnesses? Antidepressants that go against Scientology? Probably not. These are not accurate parallels. A Jehovah's witnesses has the right to refuse a blood transfusion, as does a Scientologist have the right to refuse anti depressants. To the best of my knowledge neither Jehovah's Witnesses nor Scientologists are demanding that their employers pay for these services which they can refuse. Am I misunderstanding this?

Can someone explain to me how age is a negative? Don't you gain experience, skill and ability with age? Theoretically the older that you are, the more you've had the opportunity to contribute, and the more projects/discoveries you've had to achieve. -
You are correct and I spoke out of frustration. My experience with the gay community is that they are just as exclusive and narrow-minded as a lot of other communities except that we have "minority" status. I think in that the 1960's era of feminism that there was a large number of vocal lesbian feminists. And I'm not sure about what you mean about being disgusted with the straight community as it doesn't really exist. There are a lot of communities independent of sexuality which are predominately heterosexual, but they aren't really "heterosexual communities" (e.g. the gamer community, Christian, etc.,). Could you please clarify for me?

"I Opted Out" From My Family. How Do I Tell My Kids?
Pleiades replied to padmasambhava's topic in Peaceful Parenting
Very great advice! I would recommend asking them how they feel about it. Make sure that they understand why it is happening and make sure that they know you still are a family. The thought in their minds may be "Will daddy leave us", and you may need to tell them what you as a family need to do to stay as a strong unit. -
