  1. Stef has previously released audio version of for his books for free. I would imagine he'll do the same for this new book.
  2. Great video! His other videos are worth a watch too. They seem like great little videos to share with others who are open to the ideas. I'd be interested in seeing how the videos get received by folks not open to the ideas also. Just out of curiosity really... I don't think I've encountered this concern anywhere yet. Where has he expressed this concern? I've only been around for about 7 months now and I'm currently jumping between older and more recent podcasts so I may just not have encountered this yet. I read a similar claim by Kevin Geary (of the rebooted kids website) on facebook: "asking why Stef was moving so far away from anarchism". I haven't really heard this move in what I hear coming out of FDR. Anyone else? Having concern for the timeline of peaceful parenting is a pretty big concern of mine too. But I can't see any reason not to continue to battle (not that I'm a very active solidier!)
  3. Have you explored her loyalty? What is it that underlies her loyalty? Are you able to get along in other areas? If you're correct that she isn't capable of introspection, then it seems like fixing things will be impossible. Have you talked about the idea of separation? Or is that an impossible conversation?
  4. I don't have any great advice. I would like to say that while it's important for your daughter to see a successful relationship, it is equally important that she not see her mother constantly abusing her father without consequence. Its a pretty crushing situation to be in, I am truly sorry to hear. What does your wife bring to the table in terms of virtues? Do you feel she is willing and capable to introspect?
  5. Charades is definitely a fun one. We've been doing that a lot of late and its a lot of fun. Regarding video games... I don't have a solid opinion on that one yet. I let both my kids play, but we agree on a set timeframe (which works well most of the time). They've been through a few phases of games they like, although currently they've been in the minecraft phase for quite some time. Although recently my son has been getting into "scratch" which is a neat little graphical programming environment for kids. My daughter is interested too, but she's still a little young to grok the logic. For christmas, we're going to try out a wii console. Not sure whether this is a good idea or not - but I've made the promise so its too late to back out now!
  6. What is the intent of C - surely this needs to come into play. If C's intent is to right a wrong by taking stolen property from the thief, then surely he would return it to B. If C isn't aware that it is stolen property, then he would offer to pay for it (unless A gives it away which I think could be equivalent to buying it for no money). However the scenario as described makes it sound as if C has stolen the property from A. In which case C is as much a thief as A. So either C is innocent as he believes the horse rightly belongs to A or C is a thief. I don't see how "confiscation" is virtuous. What am I missing?
  7. @mellomama - great post, thanks for all those recommendations. I have a few of those games already. Big fan of carcasonne - we do play it. Its still a little tough because my 7 year old daughter doesn't quite get the strategy involved yet. But they enjoy the building aspect so in that respect its quite fun. And we play the Catan card game. I have the board game too, but have yet to play it, so perhaps this weekend I'll give it a shot. @neeeel - that sounds like a great way to expand on the game, thanks. @Jer - thanks for the heads up, I'll definitely look into it. I quite enjoy word games, although I'm not terribly good at them. I'm terrible at scrabble which is strange as I think I have quite a good vocabulary.
  8. Anyone here been following the awesome "Maid Safe" project? Its basically this awesome layer of complete encrypted goodness that sits atop the normal internet. Its such a beautifully designed project. In some ways its similar to bitcoin in the sense that its backed by an incentive based crypto currency (called safecoin). But instead of being wasteful (bitcoin uses a proof of work concept which is basically the same as proof of electricity usage) its productive. To "mine" safecoin you need to provide storage to the network (and bandwidth to access said storage). Everything is encrypted and distributed and the idea is that within the network, it will be possible to have complete privacy if you so desire. Anyway, I'm hopeful that such a project will do away with governments ability to surveil, whether they want to or not...
  9. I should mention, one of the games my kids enjoy is just looking up words in the dictionary and trying to guess their meaning. I came up with this when listening to a school sucks podcast episode. In it, Brett was talking about breaking down a word for one of his students - I think it was the word autobiographical. I thought it might be fun to try getting my kids more aware of this. Plus I figure it'd help expand their vocabulary which is always helpful... @utopian - thanks, that is indeed true. I've only played it with them once I think. Its such a slow game that they both lost interest before much happened. But perhaps its time to try again.
  10. Thanks for your time and thoughts everyone. Neeeel: I play with both of them quite often. After school and on weekends. I feel like I have a strong relationship with them both, although this is something that I feel I need to work more on as well. I guess what I want to help give them the tools from the start that it has taken me this many years to discover. I want to give them the tools to avoid all the mistakes I could have avoided if I had discovered self knowledge and philosophy earlier and it feels like exercising their logical thinking on a regular basis kathryn: Yes I heard the bad philosophy game early on when I started listening to fdr. Thanks for the high/low game idea. We have tried something similar before, it was more about identifying what went well in the day. But this is a good idea, I will try it out again, thanks. Mellomama: Talking about movies and tv shows we watch is great. Thats a great idea and I should do it more often than I do. Do you do this after the movie or during? Which post about "converting" his wife to philosophy are you talking about? I'm going through the same struggle with very little success so far.
  11. I'm new to FDR (as of March) and peaceful parenting. I wasn't into spanking, but let myself get shouty when I was frustrated. Stef often talks about the games and conversations he has with his daughter. One he mentioned was the objective/subjective game. My kids enjoy this (they're 7 and 9) but I'd love to get ideas from others about games to help them develop their logic, critical thinking and ethics. I'm really loving learning philosophy, but I'm struggling to find ways to bring it into every day conversations with my kids.
  12. Bring on ocean current energy generation! https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ocean-energy-turbine-climate-change-solution 24 hour, clean, abundant, affordable energy.
  13. Cool, I can see it as a podcast now. All is well with the world once again. Thanks for the responses, its all much clearer now!
  14. Thanks for your reply Mike. So I can't seem to find the most recent video on the Stefan Molyneux channel, the "Dylann Roof: Charleston Church Shooting | True News" video in the podcast. Just trying to figure out where I need to be looking to keep up to date. Thanks!
  15. Stef's videos seem to show up in a few different places and I'd like to understand the difference between them all. There seems to be the FDR podcast: http://feeds.feedburner.com/FreedomainRadioVolume6 the FDR youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFHyoiRW5Ya5HJc9laaoUfA the "Stefan Molyneux" youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCC3L8QaxqEGUiBC252GHy3w They're all different from one another, but there is overlap. What are the differences between them all? I really love the work FDR does, but I'm confused by where I should be looking for it all. Thanks!
  16. What about one of those fractal star shapes like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koch_snowflake Maybe that implies heirarchy?
  17. I've been interested in nutrition for a few years now (since early 2011) and have found a lot of success with the "ancestral diet" mentality. Its more of a way of thinking than any particular diet. The more popular name for this sort of thing is "Paleo" but in general I avoid that term simply because its a confusing term which often leads to arguments about what paleolithic man did or did not do... Anyway, this guy: http://chriskresser.com/ is pretty awesome to follow. He does a regular podcast about various health issues and runs his own practice (in the bay area in CA). But in general there are loads of great people to follow in this area. I'd actually love to hear Stef and Chris chat together - I suspect there is a decent overlap between audiences.
  18. It would be great if an up or downvote required a reason. It might result in fewer votes, but would presumably improve the value of votes cast.
  19. Incidentally, thanks for the heads up on the LDP, I hadn't heard of them.
  20. A little late to the party here... There is another interesting sounding political group that sounds interesting, the Australian Sovereignty Party: http://www.sovereigntyparty.org.au/ I echo chrisdjmorgan's sentiment that voting for the lesser evil is probably the better way to go. Having said that, distinguishing the lesser evil from the greater evil isn't always an easy task.
