  1. A movie from 2009 worthy of recommendation.
  2. I've always believed noone can tell you whether a piece of art is "good", the individual decides. For me following a formula would stifle the organic thought processes used in the evaluation of the piece/works. Even if every other person on the planet says a piece is "good", if an individual thinks otherwise, that doesn't mean that individuals opinion is wrong. The criteria by which a piece could be deemed as "good" are as varied as the number of preferences that any individual could have. Unless there's a restriction in the criteria for evaluation, in which case removing freedom of choice/thought, I doubt whether their is any work of art that every person would class as "good".
  3. Apprehension is understandable; however, If the mental patients aggression is stressing you out, IMO you shouldn't be working in such an environment, you clearly aren't up to the job. Maybe look into your own mental health, you may have underlying anxiety issues.
  4. Im wondering if there is an audio version?

  5. Not really a question, more just something I thought others may find interesting. I watched a weird nature program, on it were rats running after cats, evidently they had been infected by a parasite called T.Gondii which effects their brains, effectively rewiring it and in away controlling the rats actions. There are many examples in nature of parasites controlling the minds of their host. It mentioned that 1/3 of humans are infected with T.Gondii, the effects on the human brain are being studied. I read this article http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2012/03/how-your-cat-is-making-you-crazy/308873/
  6. Zzzzzz
  7. From what I read, the EMDrive uses microwaves. Also people are taking the findings seriously as it does raise questions about the the known laws of the universe, Ive not given it much thought for a while so can't remember the source, I don't just make up random statements. The link explains more about the EMDrive http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0094576515002726
  8. Its interesting as it evidently produces thrust, but as to why/how, the scientific community is still debating/experimenting. In understanding how it is producing thrust, there is talk of rewriting the known laws of the universe.
  9. These people are unfortunately the norm in society. Have the courage to tell them the truth!. Due to people with their beliefs/opinions, the world is in the state it is, they lack morals and integrity. As a result of their ignorance they support and add to the evil in the world. How have they come to their conclusion that their beliefs/opinions are facts. Are they just regurgitating other people's beliefs/opinions that have been given to them through indoctrination and culture?. Are they just assuming that that is they way it's always been, and that is how it will always be?. The things you talk about which they call "fantasy", ask them if they agree, that if your so called "fantasy" was the norm, Society would be better and that If we always do the same things will never change. Also the fact that, If people woke up to reality and stopped relying on other people to change the world for them, took it upon themselves to make a difference and live a moral life, then we can effect change. The argument from Morality, UPB. The bomb in the brain. How scientist were murdered for going against false beliefs in search of the truth and how today we enjoy the fruits of their courage. It's sad that people like that are just surviving, I my self am living, due to the fact that I can see the truth and choose to live a moral life. At some point give up on them, theyre a waste of your time, which could be better spent living and talking with those who are open to the truth. Show confidence, Oh and try not to come across as a looney or preacher Not sure if that was any help to you, Its just some of my thoughts about things I've found useful in dealing with these sort of people.
  10. My thought is you need to devote an awful lot more of your brain power, to examining hunting. You say you can see the appeal of hunting?, in your opinion what is the appeal of Hunting?? IMO, with regards to conserving the planet/environment, we don't have a responsibility to do anything, we are "Free" to do whatever we want, We make are choices based on what we feel to be right. Morals pertain to enforceable human behaviour. Exploitation is the use of "force", and is IMO not inevitable. In saying people have a "right" to provide for their families, how will that right be enforced and what extent of force can be used. If they do need to kill endangered species, to provide for their families it's a result of tyrants, war lords and politicians taking away their rights and abilities to provide in other ways. The people who bemoan about endangered species, while not bringing up the real issue of the evil people who create the conditions that don't allow people to thrive, and as a result are being forced(though people could choose to move away) to kill such animals to provide for their families, are immoral people and through their actions/ignorance support the evil in the world. I may not of answered your question, or been of any help, that is just my thoughts.
  11. My upbringing was so neglectful and since becoming an adult I've just no idea where to find any sort of information or help. I've never heard of the Internet, the library or common sense, in fact I don't even know what I'm doing right now. I don't know how, but I seem to have stumbled across a resource/community about philosophy in a draw at home. My question is, will you hold my hand while I cross the road?. Also, I'm thinking of trying a new diet, I'm only ever going to eat my own toe nails and belly button fluff. Has anybody ever tried this diet? and can somebody do the work that I should so easily be able to do, and find out any information regarding this. Thanks, you saved me the effort.
  12. Annnnnnd you told everyone about it and people started praising you. I wonder whether you have a need to feel the admiration of others. You did what any decent person would have done. Also, as you have stated, you have MA experience therfore you must have some confidence that you could have defended yourself. I wonder if your actions would have been different if you had not any MA experience. You say "the image came to mind that this man had be hit like that as a child by his father". Firstly you had no idea about the mans true motives for punching the other man or the causes of the mans aggressive nature, and without any facts you just jump to a conclusion, and secondly why have you state by "his father"?, do you assume that mothers don't hit their children??. Anyway, You did the decent thing and that's a good thing.

  14. A movie character is fictional, it has came out of a persons mind, the character only exist as part of that fictional reality, through a persons choices the character has been created. If we were to take a character out of a movie, then the movie wouldn't be the origionaly fiction that the person chose it to be. A person Is not fictional, they exist in empirical reality and their effect on reality is measurable. Im going to have to bow out of this argument as I never intended to get into it in the first place. Initially I passed a quick of the cuff comment, which I thought was self explanatory ( oh how wrong I was haha ) and thought nothing of it, next I know I'm into a big debate ( I'll be sure to not make that mistake again, everydays a school day ). I act as if I have free as I can't prove it either way, and I'd like to believe that Its actually my choices that are the cause of my achievements and will count towards achieving my future goals. Be free, be well and be happy
  15. Interesting video, thanks for posting. I may have missed something, but it didnt explain how we have consciousnes. As the Stuart Hameroff, said we dont really know what consciousness is (other than some sort of quantum effect in micro tubuals?) and knowing how to reproduce it is a very long way off. I enjoyed watching it tho, thanks again.
  16. Firstly, before I address your question, the fact you laughed out loud made me wonder why I you would laugh at yourself for not understanding something?. You may have grown up being laughed at for not understanding things, that sounds like an issue you need to do some work on. Secondly, prepare to be schooled, haha If everything is pre determined then nobodys life or the things we achieve or that make us happy would mean anything. If my actions are predetermined then nothing has anything to do with me, everything is already set out and my actions mean nothing. The things that make me proud of achieving would have no meaning and it would be irrational to be proud of myself for something that ive not in reality achieved. To me, its like being proud of the fact that i can breath.
  17. This may not be much help to you but I'll it anyway After 18 months of listening to FDR podcasts I would have thought you would have asked yourself a lot of important questions and cleared a lot of things in your mind (did you start from podcast Zero?, what number are you upto todate?), Only you can know what will bring you the greatest "Freedom" and "Happiness". If you think your degree would be useless and it's not making you happy then, it's just my opinion, ditch it. First, look into the short term pain/long term gains of it, some of the knowledge/skills learnt maybe transferable and depending on how far along you are, it might be worthwhile finishing the degree. Keep your objective in mind so you don't feel your wasting your time. Start your own business and create jobs for people. Go self employed/freelance, it all depends on what you want for the future. Some people will feel free and happy with a simple life, being relatively poor, some people feel free and happy with the resources to do a lot more. Twelve months in a particular job as it shows future employers you have some reliability/commitment. Your a young man, you could work hard and gain the skills to climb the ladder, in some years youll have gains skills, knowledge, expertise and as a result you'll have greater earning potential (short term pains for long term gains). You live with your girlfriend, does she follow FDR, what does she do/what skills does she have, if you love her (if you don't then get out the relationship fast) and plan on staying with her for the rest of your life, maybe you could discuss starting a business or something together. Nobody can tell you what to do, only you know what makes you happy. The fact you've posted on here asking for advice tells me you don't know yourself and need to ask yourself more question and figure out your "true self". Everything I said you probably already know. I wish you well
  18. Again, i may be missing something, I referred to the fact that we can't explain consciousness as the video you posted jumps straight from we're made of stardust to, we experience some things, to we have free will. We don't know how physical matter results in consciousness and we don't know how that consciousness translates into the appearance of free will.
  19. We're made up of atoms(star dust) but how that results in consciousness is unknown. Again, I may be getting mixed up, I believe we have free will; however, For example, if I was raised by psychopaths and everything I'd experienced/knew was in some way psychopathic, I believe that the choices that would be presented to my conscious (free will) by my subconcious, would be psychopathic. In the same way as culture will in some way determin my beliefs/opinions. Without external intervention, with regards to experiencing a different way/knowledge/the truth/reality, then my choices (free will) will be determined as my subconscious doesn't have much to work with and couldn't present my conscious with anything other than psychopathic options. We can't explain how we have consciousness and we can't know for sure, whether we entirely have free will. I believe are subconscious decisions are determined due to causal effects and then we are presented with conscious choices. It is these conscious choices that we interpret as "free will". With regards to everything being pre determined, everything being already set out and that we have no choice, I believe that to be illogical as it would negate my life and all that brings happiness. When I said determined, I didn't mean determined since the beginning of time and couldn't be changed.
  20. Arbitrary values and things are the problem, a person can't know true happiness without understanding their self. Society skews the gender roles and puts pressure on the sexes to strive for false ideals. I agree with either sex wanting to pursue certain avenues; however, at the expense of raising children is, IMO immoral.
  21. There is no dilemma, Racism is perpetuated by the state, it isn't just nonsense it has a very real and immoral evil purpose, to control the "livestock". Racism is a result of religiously biased scientist, twisting scientific theories to justify slavery. Studies on race and IQ are ridiculous, immoral and a perpetuation of the ignorance and control of the "livestock".
  22. Ive probably missed an obvious point, but I don't see how that answers it?. To me it seems you've only stated that "I" move myself. Whether I chose (free will) to move myself or whether my movement was determined in some way, is still unanswered as far as I understand. Subconsciously, could causal factors determin the options which are presented to my conscious. Then I use "free will" to decide upon and choose which option would produce the best outcome with regards my objective. As I said I may be missing an obvious point, It just doesn't seem black and white to me.
  23. One of the oldest questions in the book. It's unanswerable at this point in time(maybe never) As we don't know, the most logical action to take is to act as if we do have free will. If we act as if we don't have free will, then theres no point in discussing moral theories, everything would be pre-determined and nobody would be responsible for their actions. Even though The facts aren't known, IMO, Determinists are illogical.
  24. Those people are exactly that, part of the corrupt system and its not them we want as part of the movement. I refer to people who are clueless due to lack of education, understanding, awareness and apathy. Most people are good inside, they can feel/see the current system is wrong but have no idea what to do about it or where to go to find the truth, theyre trapped in the invisible cages. Sure, it would be easy for anyone to look for and find the information should they want/try to; however, most people don't as they don't have the belief they could do anything to change the system, they believe it is what it is and always has been, they support the current system through their ignorance and continue in bondage trying to make the best of it. It's my belief that secular/non governmental Youth groups (especially) and community centres centred around promoting logic, reasoning, morals and a universal standard of ethics (UPB) are the way forward. The information to empower people to think for themselves, to question reality, their beliefs and opinions is not in society to the extent that its having a major impact. I believe that most people when confronted with their lack of morality and virtue will want to change for the better (disgarding the socio/psychopaths/corrupt). I understand freedom is not about telling people what to do; however, having the information in people's faces giving them the opportunity to stumble upon it in their everyday lives is vital as, when people have to go out and look for the information, they are less likely to do so, as such the movement is suffering due to lack the of enquiry. Religion, as I see it, tends to be about worship ( evidently and ultimately its about control through threats/coercion) and following the teachings/commandments of a deity(mythical being), this clearly doesn't fit with idea of freedom. The community aspect of religion comes about through common beliefs, (FDR Community). In my mind, even if people knew nothing (relatively) but accepted the rationality, logic and reasoning for a Universal standard of secular ethics (UPB), then freedom would be possible. Some people would still study science if they chose, but it's not imperative for freedom. As far as I'm aware( I could be wrong), the reason Stefan does all these podcast is in the pursuit of truth, happiness and virtue, also to lift the lid on the immorality of past/present systems and practices, aswell as the cause and effect of the initiation of force, and to awaken people to the cages we can not see.
