Trump often claims to be willing to alter, impose, and end trade deals with China. But from my understanding of trade deals, they are often not dictated at all by the President, and to a certain extent the US Government as a whole. NAFTA required agreements between three countries. The IMF, World Bank, and WTO are multi-governmental organizations that bargain on and agree on trade arrangements. How could Donald Trump effectively make any change? First he would have to get the US Congress on board, which seems hard to do with the current Republican and Democrat politicians. And even getting Congress on his side wouldn't guarantee a favorable response from larger trade organizations. So how much of what he proposes in regards to trade could be practically achieved?
