Came by this video about Industry 4.0 concept and wanted to share. Unlike the stock videos from commercial videos, the speaker popularized the idea really well and made them relevant to us regular folks, especially if you are entrepreneurial and are interested in future trends. Some key ideas Internet of things on industrial settings, TCP/IP might be obsolete Smart manufacturing, consumer preference will decide the manufacturing process, instead of manufacturing process dictating the product availability Cloud manufacturing, production facility operating at high capacity 24/7, opening up opportunity for entrepreneurs who have grand ideas but no capital to invest on equipment Transboundary, big data analysis uniting auto, insurance, and banking industry creating a new value chain. This time around, good driving record actually means something. Knowledge automation, forget blue collar and white collar jobs. The future gold collar jobs will deal with automation of the process of extracting useful knowledge from sea of raw data. The original video is in Chinese, I did the translation the best I could… alright not the best. But pursuing perfection without asking for criticism is a lame effort. So please criticise! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3lKQBKc9rY - Introduction https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpJ9QnV_RzA - Smart Manufacturing and Cloud Manufacturing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2I1HESJc-m4 - Transboundary https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9JYr_RntbU - Automation of knowledge production

I often hear a lot of "Chinese is the language of the future" comments from people who think they are really intelligent. I was thinking it over and I do not believe this to be true. 1. Chinese is very difficult to learn in comparison to English and Spanish and other Languages. 2 China is teaching many of their students Mandarin/English/Spanish while most schools around the world are not learning Mandarin 3. People often believe Chinese is the language of the future simply because the Chinese have a huge population. However, their population is all in one area while English and other mainly European languages spread all over the world. So your thoughts? Will a Chinese language like Mandarin and Cantonese be the language of the future?

Mike Hearn, one of the bitcoin core developers does a really interesting presentation on the future of economics. The is self driving cars and other smart machines making money by providing services and spending money by purchasing repair and the services of other machines. The theories do not require the long promised and never delivered artificial intelligence. It's just really smart programming, micropayments and a series of connected networks reducing overhead of everything to being practically nothing. It's fuckin' wack yo! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pu4PAMFPo5Y

What do you guys think of transhumanism/the technological singularity? I recently read Kurzweil's book, and live in the Bay Area where these topics are common, and wonder if Stefan Molyneux has discussed the topic.---If you are not familiar with the concept I included a few links Ray Kurzweil explains the singularity:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uIzS1uCOcE Transhumanism wikipedia:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transhumanism An introduction to transhumanism video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTMS9y8OVuY Libertarian Transhumanism: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertarian_transhumanism GF2045, an initiative started by a Russian billionaire to achieve transhumanism:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01hbkh4hXEk

Most of us are fighting for a free society, whether it's through making Podcasts, Real Time Relationships, Peaceful parenting or something else. Freedom most likely won't be achieved in our lifetimes. But when freedom is achieved, an almost completely, true, voluntary society, what would people be fighting for? What will drive people? When freedom is achieved, what is there to do next? Thanks!

OK before everyone rages here I am being serious and I am an anarchist like the rest of you. I am going to simply be talking about strategy for the future. I am not trying to argue that we should not be anarchists, and I am not trying to attack anarchy at its core. Please keep try to keep your emotions in check I would like to just talk about strategy, and how effective the current anarchy campaign is presently. I have noticed that because of brainwashing, lack of self knowledge, negatives representations of anarchy in media, normalization of violence, etc, anarchy is an incredibly tough sell to anyone. Converting a meaningful portion of the population to anarchy is a daunting and impossible task. Because of this should we spend our time working on the near impossible? Supporting and teaching statists to instead support voluntary relationships, oppose violence, and leave politics as much out of it as you can. Don't tell them you are a anarchist. Don't even hint at it. And don't even try to suggest they change their political beliefs. Just attack them at the most basic level and help get them to support the fundamentals and the rest will follow in time. I would argue that if you can help push the population towards the basics fundamentals of anarchy without telling them so they will be primed for future conversion. Another problem with being an anarchist is that once you claim to be one you put a target on your back. Your opinions and arguments are automatically less effective. People do not like anarchy and their defenses go up instantly. If you never trigger that first set of defenses then you have a higher chance to get them to stop hitting their kids, change their relationships, etc. I would suggest simply stating you are pro nonviolence, and have no political ties. In conclusion I propose that it would be more effective in the short and long run to abandon anarchy and just promote nonviolence. If you start with nonviolence and people start applying it to all aspects of their lives the ending effect will be at very least a bunch of statist libertarians which would be a great start. I would even suggest not saying you are an anarchist, libertarian, or any political view at all. I think if you stay as neutral as possible and attack the fundamental flaws in society you will see a faster more effective change. What do you think of my theory? Is it spot on? Do you completely disagree? Do you have an alternative plan? Do you think anarchy is spreading quickly enough? Do you think anarchy will ever leave the fringe with our current strategy?

i was having a conversation with some guys about the anarchist principles and activism and we came to debate about how could social organization be any different. well, first we were talking about why it should change and what would we want to see. but then we were talking about what we'd like to see based on what is possible or not to happen. we changed the direction from philosophical priciples to practical matters. so i realized that often people don't follow a very straight line when debating (informally), and end up going through a variety of subjects without much objectivity, not even realizing they are doing so for that matter, which is not very productive. anyway, I'm bringing this up because i think analysing debate itself is very illuminating because we can have clear view of where its heading. so we should address it directly. my main point: if we want to have good communication we have to be aware of how it's happening (to say, of course, we must study it). so, while we're at it, let's take the situation above. did you ever have simmilar experiences? do you think this change of subject in a debate is frequent? what makes a good debate and a bad one? P.S.: 1- i think that changing peoples minds relies much more on how we try to do it than the actual content our ideas 2- one of the guys said something like other countries wouldn't tolerate a stateless society, people wouldn't let that happen and i wasn't very sure how to respond to that. it's an abstraction of course (and i think it's a very misleading direction to take) but if you could help me out here with some posts/links suggestions so I can study that, i'd appreciate it

Hey there! So its my first post on this beautiful board. So i thought I'd make it a good one! I've been so inspired by some of Stef's recent podcasts about lofty ambitions and reaching one's full potential that i thought I'd ask.. What are everyone's ambitions? What are everyones goals / dreams? What is everyone striving toward? This can be anything you like (obviously). What i mean by that is it doesn't just have to be a job or abstraction (e.g world peace). It could be anything. Any situation, Any Goal, Any hopes or dream that your aspiring to with the help of philosophy. I'l start. I wan't to make music full time. I want to make music that as Stef puts it "Lights the electricity in peoples spines!". I've been writing for 15 years so I think I'm well on my way I want a life entirely surrounded by people i love and admire & who love and admire me. Shoot.

I started listening to and looking up information on peaceful parenting about two years ago. Since then, and especially in the last few months, I have become extremely excited to have a child and raise them free of force. I am not looking to have kids for another 5 to 10 years, but my partner and I love to talk about all the awesome ways to educate and raise kids without force. I wouldn't have that without this community. I probably wouldn't even want to have kids due to my fear of them having the same experiences I did. And continuing to deal with things that shouldn't be issues, well into adulthood. Some things I'm most excited about: Staying home for a few years and getting to know the kid Having my partner and I split time at home and therefore work less and be a family Have the time and forced opportunity to look for alternative ways to make money/save money (which we've both already started on) When the kid gets older, getting to do awesome and new things with the excuse of "my kids are interested and want to learn" Finding answers to their questions (thank goodness for the internet) Taking the time to really get to know my kids and raise the next best generation Showing the world what amazing human beings children are (the most amazing) Getting rid of alarm clocks and schedules Getting a dog Finding others in this community in my area Passing on these ideas to my friends and family members through demonstration Being a rebel in the best possible ways This isn't an extensive or prioritized list, but just wanted to say thanks and share!

I would first like to preface this by saying that it is a relatively advanced discussion of bitcoin. If you do not understand the basics of what bitcoin is, then it will likely not make much sense to you. For the absolute basics on the bitcoin currency app, feel free to read my Bitcoin: Getting Started thread. If you understand everything in there and want to research and move to the next level, this post will provide my initial thoughts and then this thread will hopefully develop from there. Explaining a New Technology Using Bad, Old Terms It is one of the banes of any new technology that you have to explain it in terms of something that already exists. As many of you have figured out by the terms used around bitcoin, about none of them actually apply to bitcoin. For instance, bitcoin is not a coin. You don’t have a wallet full of coins. You don’t even send coins really. Bitcoin is a store of value that is cryptographically embedded on a distributed ledger. This ledger uses Proof-of-Work (POW) to verify and confirm transactions. Bitcoin is just numbers that move around on the ledger. They can only be spent when a mathematical signature says the coin is now located at a new place in the ledger. Simple, right? Not at all! Bitcoin makes no sense to people who are new to the idea. Even using “old” terms, bitcoin is still confusing and leads to many people criticizing it according to old standards which do not apply to bitcoin. It makes things very difficult to explain. Thus, all of these old terms that do not apply exactly need to be used in order to analogize bitcoin with our existing ideas about money. The TWO Meanings of Bitcoin This brings me to the bitcoin name itself. The truth is that Bitcoin the network is just a distributed proof-of work protocol. On top of this, we have the application called bitcoin that is used as a exchange of value system. What This Means Bitcoin the network will very quickly have a lot built on top of it. Think about the internet. You have TCP/IP as the base protocol. On top of this, you have built the HTTP protocol. On top of this, you have many browsers that you use which bring these complexities to the "user" level. On top of this, you have the various apps and plug-ins which bring things down to an "individualized" level. Bitcoin is exactly the same. In fact, several years from now, very few will know what bitcoin is but they will use it- or a derivative- every day (similar to how few know what TCP/IP is, but use it every day). The Next Layer There are a few companies popping up that are trying to build the next layer. Mastercoin is one that is just starting. It would allow titles of property, assets, stocks, bonds, etc to have registered ownership titles in a distributed system. It would also allow anyone to make their own “coins” for a project or for themselves in order to parse out value, or stake in a project or company. I am not aware of others, but I am sure that a few may exist and the next couple years will see a lot of development in this area. Beyond That There are many places where bitcoin could go, but in time there will be many layers of apps on top of the system that the technical knowledge you currently need to use bitcoin will be silly and obsolete for the average user. Things will become second-nature and basic exchanges will happen instantly without much thought. Advantages of Bitcoin Revisited Thus, besides the many, many advantages of lessened counterparty risk and lessened third party risk and lessened overhead and lessened centralization and increased anonymity and more that bitcoin the current realization of bitcoin the currency provides, these things can be applied in the future to all assets, transactions, interactions and more. The limits are only in the imaginations of entrepreneurs as to where bitcoin can go. This post as a bit shorter as I do not know as much about the topic as it is new, and that it introduces a lot of new topics and ideas even to people who are potentially familiar with bitcoin the currency. If you have any questions, trouble, additions, or edits, feel free to ask them and I will try to respond as best I can. Also, if you want to see another post or topic about bitcoin, you can PM me or add it below and I will research or put something together- especially if I think others would benefit from the post. Thanks for reading!

Back when Ayn Rand wrote, or when Plato wrote, Shakespeare wrote, or any other classic artist/writer created works, it was probably not so glorified during that time period. The level of quality and profundity, is the "core value" and the reason why it gets brought up in the future and christened as a "classic". This is the similar phenomenon as a start up with a core product that has solid value to people, but is in the development phase where they have not realized a return on their investment.I feel like Stefan's works, like Practical Anarchy, will be studied in the future when we do get a free society, or when there are organized philosophiy-oriented schools (online or offline) that will anarchy, in government/econ/gametheory courses. The quality is just so totally there.
