  2. I am a 28 year old female with questionable self worth. As a younger woman I had greater value with the promise of an advantageous intelligence and an acutely symmetrical face. My face is still sitting on a relatively straight line but in allot of ways the promise of my intelligence and success is less likely than it was a few years ago when I 'had more time'. There has been this reoccurring theme in my life that I hadn't reflected on for a great deal of time until the recent media exposure of hedonistic worship in Hollywood. I was raised to believe that a woman is more valuable if she has more to offer a man than beauty and fertility. This meant that I needed to outcompete my vagina to win a good father for my children. Being a seeker of intensity I was excited by the challenge of greatness. I always wanted to be 'number one' because I believed if I was the ultimate human, I might then, potentially, be worthy of love, so long as, I didn't let 'myself' go and get fat after having kids because then, it would be my fault for making my husband leave me to raise our children alone. yeah, issues. So, this theme that has haunted my frail and costly existence is that every time I was number one at something, other than being an attractive young woman, there was always a specific ultimatum that eventually would stand between success and my efforts. The ultimatum went something like: 'you are really good at preforming in your area of interest and that makes you more sexually desirable. Are you willing to trade sexuality in exchange for equal consideration for investment opportunities? Are you willing to renounce the value you place in the knowledge you've acquired in order to utilize it? 'Equal consideration' meaning: To be judged based on the merit of my success and not sexually. Though, in reflecting retrospectively, maybe everyone is judged by their degree of attractiveness and some of us get ignored and some suffice to entice predation. Every time I attempted to live a 'moral lifestyle' (one that opposes hedonism and moral relativism) and contribute tangible value to society, I'd encounter an older male authority that would compare my potential for success to my willingness to consent to being the object of their sexual gratification. When I tried to pursue some of these people legally, I was essentially made to feel that I needed to conform to a deranged reality where I have nothing to offer but sex and if I resisted conformity the consequence would be estrangement from any related opportunity for economic growth. Eventually, I became discouraged and slipped into a further depression that was initiated by competing with Hollywoods standard of beauty. During adolescence and young adulthood men in my age demographic would viciously and remorselessly ostracize women who did not emulate supermodels and divas like Brittany Spears. I realize they had also experienced pressure from being bombarded by propagandized media promoting the worship of Hollywoods decadent and satanic culture. My point is, for a while I've been trying to see the world in a different light-calling myself a foolish 'feminist' for fearing the potential risk of being in those situations again and reasoning with myself to refrain from the generalization of the moral integrity of all men by the actions of the ones I've met in my life and I'm grateful for that. But, I see now, how being disappointed over and over by working hard to achieve greatness only to have my efforts be diminished by the desirability of my sexuality has created an incentive for me to avoid 'success'. In a way that result was to my benefit because now I'm focused on entrepreneurial pursuits rather than apprenticeship and collaboration with institutions that are already in place. In another way it's unfortunate that even when I was absolutely the most valuable and productive within a group of people focused on a universal task, acheiving the greatest understanding and command of the relative skill set wasn't enough, I still needed to be willing to do 'something' that was obviously irrelevant, empty and meaningless to me. Fortunately, I didn't sell out, the majority of the time, though, once I tried it to see what was one the other side. You guessed it, absolutely nothing was on the other side of that door, not even another door, just nothingness. I realize that men deal with this sort of thing too and it's really more about the relationship of culture between generations rather than gender. Like, baby boomers vs millennials for example. I'm not sure that the generation preceding Baby Boomers objectified them the way us 'useless' millennials are. I'm optimistic that there is an honest discussion happening about the treatment of young people in regards to respecting the sacredness of an individuals sexuality. Disregarding the impact that sexual experiences have on an individuals life, to the degree that it is formally claimed to have no affect at all, creates a culture that considers a spectacular actor to only be worthy of opportunity in exchange for ownership of their body or sexuality. In a way it appears to be some form of weirdo ritualism, like, 'are you willing to erase yourself in exchange for economic success?'. Living in our current corrupt society, where we are coerced into paying tax on dollars that have inflated beyond any tangible value, it's understandable that many would tend to conform to evil in an attempt to be 'realistic' rather than sacrificing themselves like Socrates, for moral virtues. Now, after all this time, I'm sure that ones soul is more valuable than anything material. Unless you have children? :/ Life is a tough nut to crack. I suppose, the only way to out-compete your genitals is to refrain from games of that nature: Competitions measuring a persons self worth based merely on their sexually desirable characteristics. Humility and honesty about reality is the only way we can create the world we hoped we would enter from our youth into adulthood.
  3. For a while, I've been exploring the subject of freedom and lately I have immersed myself in the topic of liberty and the libertarian philosophy. I work as a pharmacy technician to pay for my university. At work, as in every waking hour, I am a guy that keeps talking and analyzing questions and situations. Sometimes I feel like I talk more in a day then Stephane =P. For the past few months I have decided to analyse everything through a libertarian lens and I have found that everything (politic, economy, right/wrong, family, education...) becomes so clear and easy to understand and the solutions are simple to find. There is no more relativism. Like the universal preferable behavior tells us, an action can not be good and bad at the same time. So I have started to observe the reaction of people around me. - I would say that 90% of people dont give a shit about freedom and about living in a moral fashion. All they care about is earning $$$, having a house and a car, and to have fun. - A small minority, mostly women, want everything and everyone to be regulated and control by some dictator. - And then there are people who do not have a backbone. Who do not mind if freedoms are taken away from them, they dont care if small injustices are done to them. As long as they are taken care of, they are fine. I can count on my fingers, the number of people who truly care about their natural rights, who cannot stand coercion in any form and who are intelligent enough to see that we dont need a big government, we are even better off without the presence of the government. Very few believe in the free market and most believe that capitalism is a F word. This has become so bad, that I believe that I am turning into a libertarian snob. I'm my mind, I just cannot accept that someone who doesnt give a shit about his rights and freedoms can be my equal. What kind of birth defect or mental retardation has led them to be such agreeable slaves. This is when I take 2 steps back and realize that I am going into a bad zone. I realize that it is disgusting to look down on people. That I am wrong. But at the same time, I realize that they are contributing to the problem. They are grown this cancer call the government. They are the ones who are going to deprive my future kids of their freedoms. Sorry to leave you guys hanging on this question, but I have not found the answer to this dilemma yet. =(
  4. I was looking at the riots in Venezuela. There was a police truck that rammed a group of protesters and when it backed off, there were people stuck under the truck. I was talking about these events with my family and my father said something that made no sense whatsoever. To make a short summery of the conversation, I was telling him that people are oppressed and starving and that they are trying to leave the country to find shelter in Colombia, but that the Venezuela government is not allowing them. My father said that the government doesn't have a choice. My answer was that these people have nothing to loose. They are desperate. The Venezuela government is tyrannical because he is denying them their natural rights (in this case, the right to seek refuge in order to preserve their life) and that this government is doing it through coercion using the police and army to oppress the people. This brings me back to the words of John Locke. That every men possesses natural rights. These rights are to have freedom, to own property and the ability to pursuit happiness. If a government uses coercion to deny an individual these rights, then the government must be altered or replaced. There are some parallels to be made with the presidency of Ab Lincoln. Lincoln took control of the state for his own self interest. He had all the senators that opposed him arrested. He arrested the journalists that denounced his tyranny. And through Lincoln's madness 800 000 Americans died. It can also be debated that he was going to restart the war in order to stay into office. One man took the principals of John Locke to the letter and blew the brains out of this tyrant, thus saving what was left of the country. John Wilkes Booth took it upon himself to replace a government that used the coercion of the army on it's own people. BTW, nice shot John =) So, to the people of Venezuela. If I was to give you an advice concerning your situation, I would quote the words: ''Sic Semper Tyrannis''
  5. Libertarians often argue against taxes saying that according to historical data when taxes go down charitable donations usually go up. Logically it makes sense as people of course love naming Universities after themselves, or becoming respected patrons of charities, or giving to research on cancer etc. With Trump reducing funding for scientific research but also reducing burdens of regulations and taxes, having such data which proves benefit for society in form of private charitable donations is urgently needed!! Help to find it, please!!. Because basic scientific research cannot be profitable, for profit businesses will not be able to contribute. So there is growing worry among scientific community... If anybody here knows good sources with data and charts proving pattern of inverse correlation between taxes and charitable donations, i would greatly appreciate it, because to have such data freshly available on the net right now would be helpful in trying to separate govt and science in the minds of most brilliant scientists on the planet (good!), and show how it is possible even with reduction in govt power to have functional civilization and make the case for human Liberty (great!). Thank you in advance!
  6. Hey FDR community! I am reaching out today because I am extremely interested in starting a small community of developers, hackers, technologists and futurists who share the same values. I think a community of highly intelligent, capable and passionate individuals - in both tech and freedom - would be awesome. Not only can we get to know each other and make friends with others who share the same interests; but we will also have the opportunity to talk about newest innovations, projects we ourselves are working on and even collaborate with others! Ultimately I would love to get to know you, get a chance to work with great people on cool, liberty-oriented, money-making, open source projects. Let me know! Something to consider if you are thinking of voting for Donald Trump: http://reason.com/blog/2015/10/06/donald-trump-thinks-kelo-style-eminent-d And if you're not familiar with the Kelo v The City of New London, it's a landmark property rights case that I think all Americans should be outraged about. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelo_v._City_of_New_London

  9. I very much enjoy listening to good music (who doesn't?) but especially music that not only sounds good, but I can identify with on an intellectual or emotional level. I am starting to keep a playlist on my computer that contains songs that I identify with in this way. I occasionally stumble across a popular song that borders on something, but I hope that others have songs that they enjoy or even bands that have songs about these kind of topics. I remember seeing a couple threads with people advertising their own songs who I would be happy to see added in a somewhat consolidated place. So I am looking for songs that have topics similar about: - Anarchism - Libertarianism - Self Knowledge - Peaceful Parenting and any other topic that is discussed on Freedomain Radio. Obviously there may not be perfect philosophical consistency in a song, but being able to identify with the artful expression of a complex feeling or idea can be an enjoyable or enlightening experience. Please add a YouTube link or mp3 of the song you are referring to and what the song means to you if you would like to add to the list. Try not to clutter the thread with all of the lyrics, but providing a brief snippet to give an idea of content would be helpful in deciding whether one wants to listen to the whole song. Be sure to upvote any songs that you like, especially from artists that are not mainstream so that others notice the post and listen to the song. Hopefully, others will find this thread useful and enjoyable and add content so that I can find new songs and bands that resonate with me so that I can have a more enjoyable playlist than I currently have. Edit: If the video is essential to the meaning (aka the dancing or images make it a more meaningful song) then you can post an embedded video by pasting a YT link as plain text or by using the code media='640 x 360' YT LINK /media with square brackets around the opening and closing. You can force it to not embed for other songs (so as not to slow down page load time) by pasting the YT link and then adding the html code for the link into the link. This can be done by highlighting the text and clicking the add link button. ___________________________________________________________________________________ So I figured I would post the first song as a song that resonated with me a few months ago as I was exploring some of my "demons" Demons Imagine Dragons http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFQYaoiIFh8 Lyrics Snippet: I want to hide the truth I want to shelter you But with the beast inside There’s nowhere we can hide No matter what we breed We still are made of greed This is my kingdom come This is my kingdom come When you feel my heat Look into my eyes It’s where my demons hide It’s where my demons hide Don’t get too close It’s dark inside It’s where my demons hide It’s where my demons hide Song Meaning that someone posted that resonates with how I feel about it: It's like anyone that you see passing by, they might have a smile on their face but if you look into their eyes and really look at the details you will see they're in pain because eyes don't lie. "When you feel my heat, look into my eyes that's where my demons hide..." shows that they may not show it but the person is struggling with past problems, fears, secrets which in this song he refers to as "demons". Now someone is trying to enter in on that person's life but they don't want to let them in because they don't want them to be involved in all their troubles, etc. Hence, "Don't get to close, it's dark inside." He doesn't want the so-called to get to close to the person because of their demons. But towards the end of the song, it's more of a cry for help. "I can't escape this now, unless you show me how." The person wants to be released from their troubles and they're asking for help. This song can relate to anyone who's facing troubled times or who needs to learn to open up. ________________________________________________________________________________________ Apparently, it added it to the introductory post, but you still get the idea of what a post may look like.
  10. At 12:32 and 33:44 of this recent discussion Stefan's approach to changing the world is challenged as the best approach. The reason I'm posting this topic is to have enough of the FDR community chime in and rate it up, in the hopes that Stefan will review the video in one of his own videos, where he can have a rebuttal against the two approaches outlined in the discussion and to defend his own approach. Direct link to 12:32: http://youtu.be/BmsH2RFlYbQ?t=12m32s Direct link to 33:44: http://youtu.be/BmsH2RFlYbQ?t=33m44s What are everyone's thoughts? And if you want Stefan to make a rebuttal video, vote this up! Cheers
  11. I recently rebuilt my Liberty Resource Directory, and it's finally complete. Read about it here. If you have a site, blog, video channel, podcasts or any thing you think needs added, just leave a comment. I think it has the potential to be very powerful. Thanks!
  12. Update on the Free Academy project:Well we’re stuck in Puerto Rico through at least Sunday, waiting on the weather, but it’s given me the opportunity to reflect, and for that I’m grateful.I don’t think I’ve done a very good job of explaining this project. It’s hard because I’m doing it for so many reasons, personal and philosophical, and they mix together in a tangled web. But I’m seeing a thread now, so let me see if I can unravel it. Why am I sailing to an uninhabited island to build a little habitat, just to leave a few weeks later? And why am I calling it “The Free Academy”? This is freedom propaganda. I’m trying to show people a perspective. It might be foreign to some, familiar to others, but probably a faded childhood memory for most. It’s a way of seeing the world without judgement. Open to everything and sold on nothing. An honest search for truth. This perspective isn’t an answer to anything. Perspectives never are. But my journey has given me the opportunity to peer from a new vantage point, and I’d love to share a glimpse of my vision with you. I’m trying to help people to think outside the box, but to do that, first I have to get your attention. Sailing to a desert island seemed like a fun way to do that. But the island works on several levels. Uninhabited islands are intuition pumps. They’re aids to the imagination, tools to help us think. It’s been in the philosopher’s pocket for centuries: the old desert island scenario. People love to speculate about what would happen in a “state of nature”, tabula rasa, and often cite speculation as evidence for various claims. But no one ever runs the experiment! Well, I want to experience it first hand, if only for a short while with a few people. Is this really a “state of nature” though? We’re taking all the modern tools and technology we can afford, and enough food and water to last the trip. Not exactly an extreme survival situation (hopefully!) But that forces us to examine the whole idea of a “state of nature”, that elusive foundation for our social contract. If this freshly inhabited island isn’t a blank slate, do blank slates really exist? Because what we’re doing is exactly how every society, large and small, in the history of humanity has ever been formed: a few people went to a new place (often already claimed by another group), carrying all the tools and supplies they could manage, and simply continued living their lives. So should we form a government? Should we claim property rights? Should we vote on these issues? How will we resolve disputes? How will we build infrastructure? What do we need to survive and thrive? These are the sorts of questions I hope to investigate, and hopefully some of you will think about them too. But why give it a name? Why does sailing to an island and building a hut deserve a name like “The Free Academy”? The name is another intuition pump. I made it up to help us think about learning. To force us to examine the question: what exactly is a learning institution? Could four guys on a desert island be a college campus? Well, we’ll be thinking a lot, teaching and learning from one another. What else does it take? It’s important to understand: the hut is not the Academy. The Academy lives in our minds. Like all learning institutions, it’s made of people, not buildings. Buildings are just tools we use to make our lives more comfortable. So we’ll establish the Free Academy on an uninhabited island and film the entire endeavor, but it sails with us when we leave. Remember, the Academy lives in our minds. I look forward to sharing our adventure with all of you, and building new Free Academy campuses as I continue my journey. If you’re excited about the project, please help us by sharing this post, and consider making a small donation to our GoFundMe campaign: http://FreeAcad.comWe’re offering a funny t-shirt for donations of $50 or more: http://imgur.com/vd3u7rI
