Finally signed up for the FDR forum. Was introduced to FDR randomly last August while searching for new podcast suggestions on Reddit. I was having a very bad year... girlfriend and I split, was drinking like a fish, got a DWI, just hopeless. I wasnt living life the way  that I intended to. After listening to the first episode, I was hooked. SM was the voice of reason I've been seaerching for. I have continued to listen every day since. I can honestly say that SM was a huge, huge part in getting me on track to greatness.

I've never been one to contribute to forums, but I think I can meet many interesting, good people through being part of this community.

Kinda worte this quick but oh well.

Nice to meet everyone!

Welcome to the Forums. If you've got time this weekend and are in the eastern portion of upstate NY, take a short drive over to Manchester, NH this weekend  for the Free State Project liberty forum event and meet lots of other interesting liberty people and fdr listeners.

@Cheryl. HAHA! I'm from Schenectady too! Born and raised! Where in Schdy do you reside? I'm in the Stockade. Small world.

@Jeff. I'll look into that for sure. The weather is warming up so I'm sure it'll be a good time for the event.

Good to meet everyone!

I thought it was a long shot to ask, but I am within walking distance of the Stockade. I live a couple blocks from Union.

I had a small FDR Meetup group going for about six months, but I let it go when I didn't get the kind of interest I was looking for, figuring I could always start it up again if things changed.

I am active in the Capital Region Bitcoin Meetup group, where some know of FDR. One member had joined my FDR group, but then he moved away. Another from the former FDR group recently joined the Bitcoin group, so there is some crossover.

If you are looking for in-person meetups, I invite you to the Bitcoin group. Even if you aren't into Bitcoin, you may be able to have some philosophical discussions there. I'm among a handful of regulars, but the group does suffer from low activity, as well, however. There's supposed to be a meeting in Saratoga next weekend on the 14th.

I find it rather difficult to find libertarian type thinkers in the area/state. It's relieving to know you're local! Gives me hope (beyond the new casino.)

Where in the city did your group meet? How many members?

The bitcoin meet-up is a possibility and I thank you for the invite. I'll try and make time to get up there.

Are you a Union graduate?

It's been frustrating trying to find people in the area who are interested in talking anything more than academic and conceptual philosophy. I had eight members in my FDR meetup group, but only four of us went to any meetings, and never all at once. We met at various cafes and restaurants around Schenectady -- such as Tesoros Cafe, Villa Italia, Happy Cappuccino, and Arthur's Market.

I have no connections to Union. I graduated from Binghamton University (twenty-four years ago!). What about you? Have you always lived in the Stockade area?

I'll PM you a link to the Bitcoin meetup.

I guess new members can't use the PM feature. Here's the link to the Bitcoin meetup next weekend: http://www.meetup.com/Capital-Region-Bitcoin-Meetup/events/219828432/

We have a fun event planned, but may hold it only if we get more interest, so if you join and RSVP, it would help the organizers make their decision. I look forward to meeting you, if you decide to come.

@Cheryl: I've lived in the county for my entire life and moved into the Stockade about 5 years ago. I'll PM you once I'm approved for full membership (I think I'm required to post about 6 more posts.)

@Heisenberg: Good to meet you!

Hello. I am new to the forum also. I've been listening to FDR off and on since my first Blackberry in 2008 when I searched for philosophy apps. It's intetesting that the day I get accepted into the forum the first post I see in the "introduce yourself" subject is someone from Upstate NY. Schenectady is a drive from Watertown,NY where I am from, but, maybe it means something about FDR and the quest for self-knowledge spreading. On the other hand, the fact that Watertown no longer has a bookstore or a music store for people to hang out in like I used to as a teenager is another sign of the times.

Heisenberg, Lake George is an interesting town. As a kid,  I spent many summers in Bolton Landing. Beautiful area. Are you into the outdoors? Hiking?
