New guy here!

I regularly turn to youtube to stimulate my brain due to the lack of interesting conversation going on around me in the real world. Eventually I ran into this radio and now I can't stop listening :) still have many podcasts left to watch; looking forward to further discussing theism, morality, conflict resultion, etc.

A little about me:

I'm a software engineer who loves physics & all things knowledge. Immigrated from the chaotic country of Venezuela some 13  years ago,I've witnessed extreme socialism, government corruption, and the failure of hand out programs. I was raised catholic and was always skeptical, but had a somewhat agnostic view about religion... nowadays I'm an atheist, although I still believe we could have been engineered by some advanced species ( incredibly advanced but without the contradicting qualities Stephan points out in his ebook).

Welcome, oh new one.

I was just reading about the recent protests in Brazil led by young libertarians and right-leaning comedians. Question for you: If I were to venture to South America for a short getaway, would you recommend Venezuela? Note: I don't speak Spanish.

Hi Matt, with the current food shortage situation & insecurity in the capital I really wouldn't recommend it. Also lower income people who follow the government will most certainly give you a hard time for being an american. Maduro has instilled some hate towards "U.S imperialists". Even though most middle-class citizens will most likely be able to conversate with you, that class is diminishing.

The only exception would be if you already know some locals that will show you around & keep you safe, or if you find a really good tourism company to explore the amazon\angel falls (the only thing I would recommend doing there at this point) .

In short, go to Brasil ! regardless of the protests they have a better economy and tourism in Rio is strong

Excellent. Brasil was on my list already. Thanks very much for your perspective.
