Greetings and Salutations from Austin, TX

Hello folks, hope y'all are doing well. Though I just joined the message boards, but I have been following the Youtube Channel for about 3 years. Here is my brief story.

My family came from China, I came straight to Texas at age of 12 back in 1999. Fast forward to 2012, I just got back from my deployment in Afghanistan (I joined the Marine Corps reserves back in 2006), as well as done with my service contract. I resumed my education at University of Texas at Austin pursuing a Aerospace Engineering degree.

Incidentally 2012 was also an election year, and this is when my intellectual journey took off. As I was studying in the library I saw a tiny slip of paper that was promoting the idea along the line of "Are you tired of only having two choices, fear not cause there is more than just two choices". So that's how I got into libertarianism, I consumed ravenously the libertarian videos on YouTube, they were very refreshing, the channel I viewed mostly is "LearnLibertyAcademy". One video lead to another, before long, Stef's video showed up on my feed.

I haven't looked back ever since. The entire journey is like standing next to a high cliff, and having a strong desire to look down but at the same time there is also a strong fear for the heights. It is a constant struggle to have my desire for truth to overcome my fears. Learning about what I didn't know is good, but my greatest joy comes from having my world view shattered, because every time I reconstruct it's better than before, and this pursuit of perfection is never ending.

It's good to know that I am not sojourning alone in this. I hope to become a better thinker.

:Welcome:

What do you think made you interested in philosophy? Have you always been interested in philosophy?

I sometimes cynically suspect that people who really get into philosophy have kind of just always have been into it in some way or another, and to get adults into philosophy in the first place is near impossible.

hm... question of self reflection... where my objectivism goes to die... but anyway, I was always interested in thinking and caring beyond the subject what goes on in the everyday dialogue between people (self included), so that's natural, and of course that would not have stood the rigor of philosophy, but it was a good start. I picked up a few books, started reading around, about history, current events and etc, I like to think about how things occurred and how it occurred the way it did. Engaging in this kind of activity makes me feel as if my soul is vibrating at a higher frequency.

And yes get adults into philosophy is impossible, unless something catastrophic happens cause them to reflect, but even then some still don't. Took me several years to figure out and accept that I am just different. What's even more frustrating/interesting is that some adults who spend a lot of effort reading news pieces, follow the current events through the media and consider themselves to be well-informed and by virtue of that a philosopher.
