Aquilar Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 Hi I'm Aquilar I'm from Australia and I enjoy History, art, philosophy and video games. I love History, especially about finding out the what the other side's story is too as I believe history is not black and white and that everyone had their reasons. I spend a lot of my free time playing strategy and FPS games especially games based in either sci fi or historical genres and when ever I'm inspired enough. I draw and sketch for hours. and a heads up I have moderate ASD and mild ADHD, so i might respond somewhat rashly or childishly. And so I came here looking to discuss about topics like Automation, generally engineering and sciency type things.
mbalrog6 Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 I love video games and history as well! Well met my friend. I currently am an avid Battlefield 1 fan. When I was in my early 20's I had a girlfriend who had a bachelor's degree in history and she said something very profound to me that changed me forever. She told me that it is not enough to just read the books on history. You have to read about the author, history books contain bias by their writers. You need to understand where that bias might be coming from how it could shape their telling. So reading a couple of author on the same period is advisable. Until that day I never thought about books in that way. Then now-a-days I have been watching some videos where compelling evidence has been made that a lot of the history I have been taught in my country "America" could be very propagandized. I have been making it a point to try and seek out more views. In fact I had another revelation while attending a history class in collage. It was here that I learned a fundamental truth about myself. I tended to remember only the parts of a book that interested me. The history teacher had us read an obscure passage about how the Greeks had a working blueprint for a steam engine back in their time. The only reason it was not built was because slave labor was more efficient and cheaper. Can you imagine what our technology could have been like had the steam engine been discovered in like 1000 B.C.? I can still remember that to this day. Getting to discover what you truly love and are interested in is as simple as reading a bunch of different things and asking yourself what you remember, Life lesson learned!
