  1. I work in IT, but I'm getting burned out. I've been thinking about leaving the industry, but I have to figure out what else I can do to earn a decent living. The company I work for has decent pay and generous benefits and I'm not sure if I'm prepared to give them up. The work I do is often tedious and ungratifying, but the stress is low and I have quite a bit of autonomy.

  8. No women are being denied birth control; they're free to buy it at any drug store. Moreover, birth control is not something that insurance needs to cover. The purpose of insurance is to protect people from financial destitution due to a calamity of some kind. This issue is about getting something for free and using the State to force others to pay for it.
  9. Fighting for freedom from oppression isn't the same thing as fighting for freedom. It's often the case that so-called "freedom fighters" are really no more principled than those they're fighting against.

  14. Narcissits are often referred to as emotional or energy vampires for good reason. I can't recall where I read it, but it was suggested that the legend of vampires may have been an allegory for narcissists. Here are some characteristics from the legend of vampires with similarities to narcissists:Blood drinking (sucking the life out of somebody).Aversion to sunlight (aversion to exposure).Mind control (manipulation).Menacing gaze (angry look/stare of disapproval). No reflection in mirror (inability to see themselves).Superficial charm, vanity (inflated opinion of oneself).Appear normal to everyone, but monsterous to victim (two-faced).I haven't been able to figure out the symbolic meaning of the following, and was hoping that others might have some ideas:Sleeping in a coffin.Aversion to garlic.Aversion to holy symbols.Stake through the heart. Can't enter home without permission.

  17. It looks like you're getting quite a bit of information overload here. I'll try to make this as simple as possible. Minimize salt, sugar, and simple carbs (bread, pasta, crackers, cookies, etc.). Buy a Nutribullet. They're $100 at Walmart, Target, and some grocery stores. Smoothy machines are superior to juicers because they use everything (saving you money) and you get the benefits of the fiber. Use carrots, celery, purple beets, apples, and broccoli florets (bags in frozen food section). I also add a small scoop of flax seeds, which I buy in bags at Trader Joes. You can use it more than once per day and add other kinds of fruits and vegetables if you want. Always use more vegetables than fruits so you don't load up on sugar. Try to integrate oatmeal into your daily diet. Take vitamin D supplements if you're not getting enough sun. For protein, stick with eggs, chicken, turkey, and fish. I tend to buy in bulk where I can and keep most of it frozen. I use Mrs. Dash for seasoning because it tastes great and contains no salt. I use olive oil for frying. Allow yourself one day per week for cheat meals. You have to reward yourself to avoid burnout. For exercise, you can simply use grocery bags filled with canned food or bottled water as weights, or buy some used weights on craigslist. When lifting, ALWAYS use slow, controlled movements (2-3 seconds up, hold and sqeeze, then 2-3 seconds down, rest for a couple of seconds, then repeat). NEVER swing, bounce, throw, or jerk weights. The number of reps you do isn't that important; the quality of the rep is. Don't count reps; make your reps count. If you do reps correctly, your muscles will get tight and pumped.
  18. Rape, dislocations, concussions some of the abuse wrought on boy naval recruits
  19. In your original post, you said, "Imagine there is 100 dollars(total resources) and its divided among 10 people(total population)." What do you mean by resources? Do you mean fistfuls of dirt and piles of rocks? What is a dollar and how do you know that the 'fixed' amount of resources in your narrative are worth 100 dollars? These types of exercises really don't mean anything. In a free-market, money is a direct result and reflection of production, and production is the process of transforming resources (ie. 'stuff' found in nature) into useable things which provide comfort and reduce labor. It doesn't always follow that having more 'stuff' makes one richer. At work, one of the projects I worked on was condensing many racks of servers down to one rack. What used to take six racks of servers to accomplish is now accomplished in one rack of servers. We have less 'stuff' but the company is wealthier. Even though the new servers are orders of magnitude more powerful than the old servers, they cost a small fraction. Think of smart phones and computers and how much 'stuff' they replace. People have less 'stuff' but are wealthier as a result of having smart phones and computers. Smart phones and computers are examples of resource reconstitution that conserve resources while making people wealthier. There is no shortage of arable land on the planet to feed everyone.

  21. If you're asking if it's possible for everyone to have all of their wants satisfied then no. However, it's possible for everyone to enjoy luxuries which minimize the amount of labor required to live. labmath2, there isn't a fixed amount of wealth, and resources can be reconstituted almost infinitely.
  22. I've noticed that angry, spiteful, vitriolic feminism is correlated with being left-liberal/progressive.
  23. The advantage that intelligent, productive, peaceful people have over the State (along with the State sycophants who enable it) is that we have the ability to sustain ourselves, whereas the State does not. As Murray Rothbard said, the State is a "crippling and parasitic blight...upon the voluntary and productive social process." The way to cure the pestilence is to deprive it of sustenance.
  24. Using force against the State is futile for the following reasons: 1) The State is a symptom of a much greater, underlying problem. 2) Willfully ignorant, self-destructive, sociopathic, and narcissistic people don't learn. A display of force isn't going to teach them a lesson. The only way to fix society is for enlightened, productive, peaceful people to secede from thugs and dipshits. Since they will never change through appeals to reason and evidence, the only option left is to let them purge themselves by self-destructing.
  25. You'd be hard pressed to find somebody in the forums who didn't receive this kind of indoctrination. Sadly, the children won't be told the truth about the alcoholism, domestic violence, malfeasance, incompetence, or brutality of the situation.
