The Demand For Coercion

Economics and morality are not mutually exclusive. Anarcho-capitalism is a fusion of the social philosophy of individualist anarchism (morality) with the capitalistic order of production (economics) . -
At "Rational" Wiki, the article on Austrian Economics (AE) says, "...it is generally considered to be...outright pseudoscience." As evidence of its "general consideration," they link to a FAQ on "liberalism" in which the author refers to AE as "crank science," then goes on to say that "the Austrian School of Economics is a tiny group of libertarians...financed by wealthy business donors on the far right."

There is nothing wrong with feminism, just like there is nothing wrong with liberalism. It's a particular kind with which there are problems (eg. modern, Western feminism and left-liberalism). When speaking colloquially, people often assume that others define words in precisely the same way as they do. The use of 'capitalism' (sans qualifiers) is a good example. It often causes confusion.

Should Inheritance be Abolished...?

RestoringGuy, suppose you made your intentions known in advance that you intend to disregard a person's wishes (stipulated in a will) and to help yourself to whatever a decedent leaves behind. What sort of incentive do you think that would create for people while they're alive and how do you think that they would alter their behavior? What do you think the consequences would be? People make conscious, lifestyle choices during their lives which may last for years and decades. Knowing in advance that their wishes will not be respected after death will vastly alter those choices, quite possibly to the detriment of society. They might be incentivized to consume everything while living and leave nothing.- 129 replies

A City In Decline? '2020′ Report Paints Bleak Future For LA Los Angeles has been in decline for 50 years (starting in the 1960s) as a result of the "Great Society" and other left-liberal policies. It has been plagued by welfare parasitism, bureaucracy, an anti-business climate, police corruption, and government malfeasance. LA used to be a shining jewel on the West coast. Now, many neighborhoods are dirty, dilapidated, and unsafe.

Left-libertarians tend to fall into two groups: 1. One group opposes the State because they see it as the enabler of private property, which they consider to be a form of oppression. This group consists of the typical dishevelled, lowlife malcontents who smash windows, flip cars, vandalize buildings, and set fires. They're juvenille, self-serving hypocrites whose goals are social justice and "fairness" (whatever that means). They know nothing about economic calculation, and they don't care. They want all of society reduced to the lowest common denominator. 2. The other group refers to themselves as left-libertarians for historical consistency and because they're "anti-capitalist," but they actually have more in common with anarcho-capitalists. They don't define 'capitalism' as Austrian economists do; they define it as a system of State-granted privilege to politically-connected groups. They prefer to use terms such as 'markets,' 'market anarchism,' and 'freed markets.' This group isn't petty and ignorant like the other group, and includes people like Roderick Long, Sheldon Richman, and Gary Chartier. I should also mention that some left-libertarians ascribe to a property rights theory based upon 'occupation and use' (ie. you 'own' only what is in your immediate possession) rather than homesteading. I don't agree with 'occupation and use' because it would incentivize overconsumption and make capital accumulation virtually impossible. -

The market is already addressing the issue of waste disposal. I currently provide IT support for a company which designs systems to turn biosolids into energy via plasma gasification and other processes. We can't know for certain which is the optimal method for dealing with waste in the absence of profit and loss. -

I discontinued cable TV about 5 years ago. I wish that I had done it sooner because it cost $80/mo. I'm the only person at my company who doesn't own a smart phone. Everyone pays $50/mo (or more) for that. I have a cheap flip phone with a pay-as-you-go plan which costs $100/yr. I used to be on a $38/mo plan which I cancelled 3 years ago. It adds up quick.
