capitalism and the labor market
Alan C. replied to cab21's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
A wage is a price, just like any other price, which is dictated by supply and demand. Increasing the supply of labor, while keeping the quantity of jobs artificially constricted through regulatory barriers, could depress wages. It depends upon the job, too. Millions of unskilled immigrants pouring across the border probably won't have an effect on high-tech jobs. -

Ex-Officer Convicted of Killing Beloved 'Big Boy' Elk Obviously, this guy was out of control, and it's a shame that he blew away the animal for no good reason. However, the reaction from the community is embarrassing. Marches, prayer vigils, and a memorial? People often react with more moral outrage at the needless abuse and slaughter of animals than they do to the neglect and abuse of children.

Bear in mind that the article defines 'poor' as a family of four living on an income of under $23.5K. It's difficult enough for one person to live on that, let alone four. Obviously, it depends upon where the family is living as some places are less expensive than others.

They don't reason the way that you reason, and the welfare-state insulates them from consequences so their behaviour is never corrected. They know that they're poor, but the kind of people you're talking about to tend to be ignorant, dimwitted, unsophisticated, have high time preference, poor judgement, and lack restraint regarding primitive impulses. -
