  1. When politicians and bankers say trust us, we know what's best, run for you're life!
  2. This sucks. Unfortunately people will still say, we need the EPA don't you care about the environment.
  3. Anyone seen new Woody Allen movie "An Irrational Man" pretty good, main character is a philosophy professor.
  4. Although Frank Underwood is evil, he is also very competent and gets things done. If you contrast this with Hillary who is evil but incompetent, the show actually makes government look better than it really is.
  5. What bothers me is when adults are into video games, comics, scifi, and steampunk; they are a symptom of the infantilization of our culture. Men acting like boys, because they can’t handle reality. The simpler, two dimensional characters are for children, and Moor’s characters are for teenagers and adults.
  6. Inflation has 2 different definitions, the generally accepted version is a rise in prices as you describe. The Austrian school of economics defines it as an increase in the money supply, just as a balloon is inflated with air; the money supply is inflated by printing money. Subsidies may keep prices down, it may also create artificial demand; you need a specific example to check the facts. There is so much manipulation of economies by western governments; you can’t really know the cause of problems without doing deep research.
  7. It depends on the business model. If you want quality employees you have to pay well. I had some employees I was paying $15 an hour off the books (in NYC) and still had a hard time finding anyone worth a damn. If a business can be systematized so that the employees don’t have to exercise judgment, then you can hire the cheapest labor possible. If you need intelligent motivated employees you have to pay above market rates. Also, a smaller business would be more attuned to market conditions and this advantage might offsite the higher labor costs. It is his business and he is free to manage it as he sees fit, he isn’t using government to force higher wages. Henry Ford paid double market rate to his factory workers, and became insanely wealthy.
  8. If you have a lot of cash you can come in after the crash and buy up assets at firesale prices. Eventually economies will recover and assets prices will rise. Let's say currently assets are way over priced, after crisis they will be way under priced, and after that the cycle repeats so prices will rise. Also, a good opportunity for a Bitcoin based business to help people of countries listed get around capital controls and get their assets out before the crash.
  9. You should start by studying your competition. Be sure you understand their business model and how they attract customers. You need to develop a unique selling proposition that explains how you are unique and why a customer should choose your services over competitors. Business cards are a must. I found my Spanish tutor when she posted looking for customers on a Spanish language Meetup. Bon chance, mon ami!
  10. this should help https://board.freedomainradio.com/topic/31799-testing-out-of-college/
  11. No I don't know anything about Windows phone, but I know you can hook up an iPod to your PC and browse the files the same way you can with a USB drive. You might have luck opening the drive on your PC and fishing around for the raw data.
  12. You could try using search and replace with regular expressions, but I don't know how the date entered can be logically linked to original podcast. Perhaps try Amazon Mechanical Turk, it is a service where you put work you need done up for bid to be done by humans https://www.mturk.com/mturk/welcome
  13. Hello, to update, I've lost 17 pounds so far. For my diet, I'm mainly cutting back on eating and avoiding carbs and sugar. For exercise mostly walking with some running and weight lifting. Still haven't figured out what to do long term. Thanks for the support everyone. I hope to have a non-philosophical six pack one day.
  14. I doubt a true sociopath would post an attack online. My experience with sociopaths is they project a friendly persona in public. They will play the victim to gain sympathy. The ugliness comes out in private.
  15. Debates on internet are less about you and your opponent, there is an audience here. I can’t remember exact figures from when I studied internet marketing, but the ratio of lurkers to posters on a forum is in the ballpark of 30 lurkers for each poster. So, the reason to debate isn’t necessarily convincing your opponent, but to convince the other readers. Think of every political debate, they aren’t trying to convince the opponent; instead they want to win the audience. If you withdraw it could be perceived as you're conceding the debate. Kevin Beal Implicit in your post is the assumption that your opinions are correct, that you are the champion of truth, and that anyone who disagrees is beneath you (intellectually, morally). Is this what you are trying to say?
  16. Google is the king of search and other search engines don't have much impact on a businesses' sales.
  17. You could say it's unfair because some businesses don't have the money to hire a developer to change their website. However, Google has to keep their customers happy by delivering the best search results. Unfair doesn't equal immoral.
  18. My # 1 goal is losing weight. I used to play rugby, and have the typical rugby player physique, except its covered in fat :-( I'm already very muscular, except for my biceps because I never hit the weights that hard.
  19. This might be violating property rights, even if it's temporary.
  20. It could be “theory-induced blindness.” "Once you have accepted a theory and used it as a tool in your thinking, it is extraordinarily difficult to notice its flaws." “The errors of a theory are rarely to be found in what it asserts explicitly; they hide in what it ignores or tacitly assumes.” Daniel Kahnema (2002 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, author of Thinking, Fast and Slow) http://www.bmartin.cc/pubs/comments/1208Kahneman.html https://www.spauldinggrp.com/why-do-we-refuse-to-see-the-flaws-in-our-beliefs/ http://www.amazon.com/Thinking-Fast-Slow-Daniel-Kahneman/dp/0374533555
  21. The CAN-SPAM Act (In Plain English) “Only send email to people that "want" it. People can tell you they want your emails through several methods: subscribing via a form on your website; putting a business card into goldfish bowl that says "join our email list" at a trade show you went to; giving you permission verbally; or by simply being a recent customer of yours (meaning they've purchased something from you in the two years or so.)” http://www.infront.com/blogs/the-infront-blog/2011/12/27/the-can-spam-act-in-plain-english
  22. It's only legal if you have a prior commercial relationship (existing customers).
  23. You response didn't make sense to me and I didn't feel ilke bothering with it (it rambles on). Um, calling me a troll.
  24. Yes, that is spam, unless each email is individually written and sent.
  25. Very interesting. Jkgaeng, FYI sending unsolicited bulk email (AKA Spam) is illegal in USA, so be careful not to get in trouble. It’s common in tech industry to see attractive young women working in sales.
