  1. I had 2 un-successful businesses. Fail fast, meaning don't spend all your time planning, try an idea and see if it works. http://www.forbes.com/sites/nyuentrepreneurschallenge/2012/10/16/fail-fast-succeed-faster/ Screen your clients and look for “red flags”. “Fire” any difficult ones. Many clients have unreasonable expectations and/or treat you like dirt. A difficult client will suck the life out of you. Remember, just like a potential customer can choose not to do business with you; you have the same right.

  3. Thanks. Front end is hand coded HTML, CSS + jQuery for JavaScript. Back end is PHP + MySQL with Codeigniter framework. I'm not a big PHP fan, it was a course requirement, but I do like Codeigniter for the most part.

  5. Sebelius Threatens To Put VA In Charge Of Obamacare If Critics Don’t ‘Back The Fuck Off’ http://www.duffelblog.com/2013/10/obamacare-veterans-affairs-fix/ WASHINGTON, DC — Following yesterday’s disastrous Obamacare hearing on Capitol Hill, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has released a video message to Youtube where she warns: “Back the fuck off, or I’ll go nuclear.”The so-called “nuclear option” has long been considered a red line for the administration. It would see Sebelius cede control of implementing the Affordable Care Act to the Department of Veterans Affairs.“You think this is bad now? You think this is bad now?! You ain’t seen nothing!” Sebelius says in the two-minute video posted early this morning.“They’ve [the VA] been in business for decades and have only a few million customers. It takes them six months just to lose your application. Their website is a Kafkaesque labyrinth straight out of Dante. You will fucking BEG me to be in charge again.”“The VA takes strong men and women who’ve survived IEDs, privation, disease and in a matter of days breaks their spirit,” she continues. “Subpoena me one more time and I will fucking do it, bitches.”At press time, VA Secretary Eric Shinseki was seen adjusting his beret and shifting uncomfortably in his seat when asked for comment.
  6. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2013/11/how-nsa-mass-surveillance-hurting-us-economy Privacy may not be the only casualty of the National Security Agency’s massive surveillance program. Major sectors of the US economy are reporting financial damage as the recent revelations shake consumer confidence and US trade partners distance themselves from companies that may have been compromised by the NSA or, worse, are secretly collaborating with the spy agency. Member of Congress, especially those who champion America’s competitiveness in the global marketplace, should take note and rein in the NSA now if they want to stem the damage.
  7. Weaknesses in the controls over asset management at the Internal Revenue Service leave the IRS’s information technology assets vulnerable to loss, according to a new government report... ...TIGTA also found that ineffective inventory controls created an environment where information technology assets are vulnerable to loss. TIGTA selected 146 information technology assets to physically verify and could not locate and verify or find proper supporting documentation for 34 information technology assets worth more than $948,000.In addition, IRS offices did not properly complete the annual inventory reconciliation process.http://www.accountingtoday.com/news/IRS-Tracking-Technology-Assets-Questioned-68451-1.html http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/auditreports/2013reports/201320089fr.pdf
  8. They love democracy!!! LOL. I think the government of China needs to keep the value of the Renminbi low so that Chinese exports are priced low. That in turn creates demand for low-priced Chinese goods abroad, which then fuels growth. One way to keep Renminbi low is to buy up lots of US treasury bonds. The US is the world’s largest market and If the dollar collapses the Chinese will lose a large amount of export sales.
  9. It’s hard to believe the person behind Silk Road was living in the USA. I wonder how many days before a new site takes it’s place.
  10. I can't tell if stories I read are real or fake news like the onion.
  11. The US military has frequency hopping encrypted radios, if that technology was used for meshnet routers I think the network would be unstoppable, but I’m not an expert. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frequency-hopping_spread_spectrum
  12. It's a good thing the government isn't in charge of anything important like protecting us or health care... Oh wait...
  13. Interesting article: Meshnet activists rebuilding the internet from scratch http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg21929294.500-meshnet-activists-rebuilding-the-internet-from-scratch.html Worried about the NSA snooping on your email? Maybe you need to start creating your own personal internet. The internet is neither neutral nor private, in case you were in any doubt. The US National Security Agency can reportedly collect nearly everything a user does on the net, while internet service providers (ISPs) move traffic according to business agreements, rather than what is best for its customers. So some people have decided to take matters into their own hands, and are building their own net from scratch.Across the US, from Maryland to Seattle, work is underway to construct user-owned wireless networks that will permit secure communication without surveillance or any centralised organisation. They are known as meshnets and ultimately, if their designers get their way, they will span the country...
  14. Hector came to America from Jamaica in 1979 with his family to pursue his education and employment opportunities. After school, Hector took a job in public health, where he first learned about private vans transporting people to and from hospitals. In the 1980s he started a van company on the side and eventually—after being laid off from his job in 1992—founded and devoted all his time to his company, Queens Van Plan. It now owns 30 vans, supports 35 workers, and transports 6,000 people per day. Hector’s business has helped him support his family and put his three children through college. Hector is committed to his community and the service he provides. He transports countless healthcare workers from their homes in Queens to their jobs, and he has been applauded by the city for his selfless work during both 9/11 and Hurricane Sandy. No Vans Land tells the inspiring story of a small business owner taking on City Hall. Hector, like many other Americans, came here from Jamaica for opportunity. But like too many others, he has been forced to constantly defend himself against government attempts to restrict his business and protect powerful interests. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PI7tJ3GS1E 20 min Also, I am a native NYer and can vouch for the videos accuracy

  17. Hi I was in the US Army, I was taught you need a 3 to 1 advantage to attack a prepared defensive position. (If I remember correctly) When you attack you have to move across open terrain with no cover or concealment, which most likely has kill zones that are covered by interlocking fields of fire from machine guns as well as having exact coordinates for mortar and artillery dialed in. Also don't forget home court advantage of knowing the terrain and civilian help. I wasn’t in Iraq, but their equipment was garbage compared to US. Also US troops were way better trained. In Gulf war 1:“The Battle of 73 Easting refers narrowly to the violent armored combat action that took place in the final hours of 2nd ACR’s covering force operation in the zone of Second Squadron and in the northern third of the Third Squadron zone. In the battle, four of the 2nd ACR’s armored cavalry troops, Troops E, G, and I with Troop K contributing to I Troop’s fight (totaling about 36 M1A1 tanks), defeated two enemy brigades, the Tawakalna Division’s 18th Brigade and, later in the day, the 9th Armored Brigade.”http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_73_Eastinghttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Medina_Ridge
  18. Currently there is proposed legislation to force internet based stores to collect sales taxes in every jurisdiction they sell in. What you need to know, is that, right now, the consumers are legally obligated to pay these taxes; however it is almost impossible to enforce, making them almost voluntary. I can’t find the article, but the percentage of consumers who paid these taxes was around 1% in California. So, people are breaking the law to not pay sales taxes when they can get away with it. Californians spend freely on Amazon.com before sales tax deadlinehttp://articles.latimes.com/2012/sep/05/business/la-fi-amazon-shopping-spree-20120905Internet Sales Tax: Here Come the Auditorshttp://blog.heritage.org/2013/04/29/internet-sales-tax-here-come-the-auditors/

  20. I view it as a culture based on bullying. Which makes the current anti-bully in school campaignes so ironic.
  21. I recommend looking into web development. Go to lynda.com, it only costs $30 a month and has tons of great video courses. Even if you decide you don't want to make a career out of it; being able to build a site for your own projects is a great skill to have in your back pocket.
